Not your typical fairy tale story in the most hilarious and most heartwarming way possible.

Miya Nakamura is an illegitimate child of a rich and prominent family in Japan. When her mother passed away, the matriarch of said prominent family takes her in. She is fully convinced that maltreatment and scorn are things she will expect in her new home at the hands of her stepmother and her stepsisters. All expectations are thrown out of the window when she realizes that they are anything but cruel.

My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked note  is a shoujo series written and illustrated by Otsuji on 2020. It currently has five volumes.

My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked contains examples of:

  • Almighty Mom: Teru has a strong gravitas around her that cowers even the most intimidating individuals and brattiest of children.
  • Big Fancy House: Fitting for their station, the Kounokuras live in a vast abode, which intimidates Miya at first since she lived in a Horrible Housing with her biological mother.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Marika and Arisa take their roles as Miya's newest older stepsisters seriously. Marika is in charge of fostering Miya's academic capabilities, while Arisa helps Miya navigate the new world she is thrown into.
  • Cinderella Plot: Imagine this trope, but in reverse. This is the premise of this series.
  • Face of a Thug: Teru and her daughters have the faces of haughty schemers that would fit the mold of the typical Wicked Stepmother and stepdaughters. In actuality, they are quite kind, especially to Miya, but just happen to be... rather intense.
  • Good Stepmother: Miya's mother died due to illness. By the request of Miya's maternal grandmother, Teru takes her in. Miya expects Wicked Stepmother and Cain and Abel are going to be played straight. While Teru can be intimidating and Marika and Arisa can be haughty, underneath their barbed defenses lie a reasonable and sweet individuals who are completely dismayed at Miya's living conditions prior to her adoption. All of them take it upon themselves to raise Miya fitting to her new station.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Subverted. Marika and Arisa sport reddish brown eyes. And while they are formidable and a force to reckon with, they are certainly onboard in regard to their newest sister's well-being and interests.
  • Sibling Rivalry: The stepsisters Marika and Arisa bicker from time to time, but they always have each other's back. Before Miya's adoption, their relationship was noted to have been more antagonistic.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Marika and Arisa form this. Marika is brash, temperamental, and sometimes puts her foot in her mouth, while Arisa is calm, levelheaded, and diplomatic. Naturally, they clash against with each other, especially in regard to their younger sister.
  • Town Girls: Among the Kounokura sisters, the Plucky Girl Marika is butch, the Yamato Nadeshiko Arisa is the femme, and the Naïve Everygirl Miya is neither.
