Kintoki — short for Kinmezoku no Toki ("Toki of the Golden-Eyed Tribe"), its original subtitle — is a one-shot manga created by Akira Toriyama.

The protagonist is Toki, who belongs to a race of golden-eyed humans with great fighting abilities but short lifespans. While trying to make a living, he suddenly finds himself having to save a Damsel in Distress.

Originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump #50 (November 15, 2010) as part of Top of the Super Legends, an anthology of six one-shots by famous mangakas.

Tropes presented in the story

  • Cool Shades: Quina wears a pair of sunglasses to hide his bright golden eyes.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: After getting shot by Lord Berry, Merulusa insults him by calling him a pervert, a shrimp, skater cut and a stupid son. He gets offended by skater cut.
  • Last of His Kind: Toki is the last member of a clan of humans with golden eyes and great fighting abilities, but extremely short lifespans. In his desire to keep the race alive, he is looking for a mate. The trope gets double subverted when he finds more of his people, although none of them are girls his age according to Quina.
  • Market-Based Title: When the manga was first translated to English by a Scanlation group, it received the subtitle Toki of the Aurumoculi (a Dog Latin word made from aurum, "gold", and oculi, "eyes", and thus probably pronounced "ow-room-OH-coo-lee"). In 2013, Viz Media officially published it in its digital version of Weekly Shonen Jump with a different translation and the subtitle Toki of the Kinme Clan.
  • Older Than They Look:
    • Despite looking like a young child, Toki is actually 19 years old.
    • Lord Berry looks like a bratty child, but he is 25 years old.
