Double House is a three-chapter long josei Yuri manga by Nanae Haruno, first published in the magazine Young You in 1998.

It tells the story of Maho, a transgender hostess. One night, she sees a young woman, Fujiko, being mugged; she steps in and saves her. They learn that they live in the same apartment, and quickly become friends. Fujiko falls in love with Maho, who is wary of getting involved with someone...

This work contains examples of:

  • Arranged Marriage: Fujiko turned one down.
  • Defector from Decadence: Fujiko is from a wealthy but uncaring family who were all about appearances. She has since struck out on her own, living in a tiny apartment and cleaning buildings for a living.
  • Love at First Sight: Fujiko fell for Maho the first time they met.
  • Parental Abandonment: Maho mentions that her parents abandoned her a long time ago.
  • Proper Lady: Discussed. When Maho first started working as a hostess, she was elated to at last have a job where she could be out. But over time she came to feel out of place there, feeling stuck performing the cookie-cutter femininity expected of her job.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Maho is 180cm tall and beautiful.
  • Stepford Smiler: Koko is an outwardly cheerful and positive lady, but she's really quite depressed and lonely. By the end of the manga, she's feeling better.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: Fujiko's presentation gets more butch over the course of the manga.
