Dekichatta Danshi is a Boys' Love manga series by Mikage Tsubaki; the story follows Childhood Friends Hisui and Yuu. Hisui's family abandoned him when he was in Junior High, leaving him jaded and insecure, Yuu and him develop a friends with benefits relationship as a coping method for Hisui's loneliness. One day, a baby is left in Hisui's family's closed down bar and it turns out the baby is Hisui's sister's son, Haruhi, and the two are blackmailed into raising the baby.

Has a spin-off manga called "Dekichatta Shitsuji," which follows the story of a wealthy high school student named Wataru and his "butler" Azuma raising Wataru's sister's child due to her suffering injuries from a car accident, rending her incapable of raising her daughter for the time being.

This manga provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Yuu is a nickname, his full name is "Yujirou", he's called this by everyone and Hisui occasionally called him "Yuu-chan" in the past.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Yuu and Hisui find Haruhi this when he was in elementary school.
  • Childhood Friends: Yuu and Hisui.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Yuu and Hisui.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Hisui appears very scrawny in comparison to the slightly larger framed Yuu, turns out Hisui (and Yuu) is hiding eight pack abs under his clothes.
  • Covert Pervert: Yuu is even more perverted than Hisui.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Yuu and Hisui show shades of this, Hisui gets upset and jealous when he sees Yuu with people other than himself. Yuu seems to be upset at Haruhi when the boy said that he wanted to marry Hisui, Yuu grabs Haruhi tells him to come with him angrily.
  • He's All Grown Up: Twice with Haruhi, in the extra chapter at the end of Volume 1, it shows him as 7. Volume 2 onwards, he's about 16. He's in college around Volume 4.
    • Twice with Yuu and Hisui as well, they are 24 in the extra chapter at the end of Volume 1, and in Volume 2 onwards, they are in their 30s, not that you can tell.
  • Happily Married: Not officially, but Yuu proposed to Hisui in Chapter 11 and the two are basically married, just without the official documents.
  • Loveable Sex Maniac: Hisui often sleeps around with women, this is a sort of defense mechanism he has, as being with someone makes him feel less lonely after being abandoned.
  • Luminescent Blush: Hisui is highly prone to this.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Haruhi gets pulled into his mother's bosom when first meeting her after being abandoned.
  • Meaningful Name: "Hisui" is the Japanese word for "jade" and being abandoned by his family didn't really do his personality and self-esteem any favors.
  • Nice Guy: Yuu; Hisui thinks he's the kind of guy that will be loved and will get married, and often times makes him mad in an attempt to push him away so he can be happy.
    • Ryuusuke counts as one as well.
  • Oblivious to Love: Hisui doesn't realize that Yuu is genuinely in love with him, nor does he realize that he loves Yuu; even constantly saying that what he feels for Yuu isn't love.
  • Older Than They Look: In Volume 2 onwards, Yuu and Hisui are in their early 30s, but they still look 17.
  • Parental Abandonment: Hisui's father randomly left one day, his mother soon followed saying she'd find his father, and then his sister ran off with her boyfriend. Some years later, his sister leaves her infant son with Hisui and doesn't show up to see him again until Haruhi is 7. Hisui is much more effected by this than Haruhi.
    • Aoi leaves yet another baby with Yuu and Hisui. This time, the baby is a girl named Jewel.
  • Parental Incest: One sided, Haruhi clearly has feelings for his uncle, Hisui, even saying that he hopes to marry him when he's older. Hisui only thinks of him as his nephew/son.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Haruhi and Ryuusuke have sex in Volume 5.
  • Seme: Yuu. Ryuusuke, most likely.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Hisui seems to want this relationship with Yuu, saying on a few occasions that he wishes he could marry him. Volume 2 reveals that Yuu has been having similar thoughts all along, i.e. wanting to marry Hisui, and in Chapter 11, proposes to Hisui and refers to him as "my wife."
    • With Haruhi and his boyfriend Ryuusuke, it's on and off since Haruhi seems to be annoyed with Ryuusuke's affections, yet he loves him at the same time.
  • Sleep Cute: Yuu thinks that Hisui's sleeping face is cute, given that he blushes when remembering how peacefully he slept in Chapter 4.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Haruhi mentions that Hisui and Aoi look a lot alike, but he also says that he thinks Hisui is much cuter than Aoi. When he grows up, Haruhi starts showing resemblance to Hisui as well.
  • Tender Tears: Hisui gets these often whenever he thinks about Yuu abandoning him like his family.
  • Tsundere: Hisui. Haruhi is also a tsundere to Ryuusuke.
  • Uke: Hisui. Haruhi when he's with Ryuusuke.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Yuu is very compassionate, tolerant, and understanding of Hisui's feelings.
    • Same goes for Ryuusuke. He doesn't mind being Haruhi's number 2 (later becomes number 1.5) and still dates Haruhi anyways. He also told him that even if Haruhi falls in love with another person, he'll always love Haruhi
