A monster acknowledged, yet ignored by her peers.
A one-shot manga by Inio Asano, Bakemono Recchan or Monster Girl Recchan tells of an otherwise ordinary girl with a monstrous face. Her classmates all support her, seemingly in spite of her face, and she soon becomes incredibly popular within her class. However, one girl shows annoyance at all the love Recchan receives, not in spite of her face, but because of it. She's ignored by the class, who continue to praise Recchan and put her on a pedestal, until one day...

This manga includes examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: After Recchan loses the race, all her classmates go back to barely acknowledging she exists, but pretend they were genuine friends to her. Nakajima asks them, not one, but two of these when it seems she's absent.
Classmates: Uh, yeah, we do worry for her.
Nakajima: Is that so? Does anyone know why she's absent?
Girl: What's that bitch? Just say what you wanna say!
Nakajima: If you don't know, just let me phone and ask her, what's her phone number?
    [Silence]
Nakajima: Nobody knows? Some 'friends' you are.
  • Decoy Protagonist: The titular Recchan is the main focus of the story, but the true protagonist is Nakajima, experiencing what her classmates are doing and wanting them to put a stop to it.
