- Old Magic: A system of Functional Magic that has been mostly or entirely replaced by a newer system of magic.
- Old Media Are Evil: Where "traditional" media is seen as untrustworthy.
- Old-School Chivalry: A male character adheres to traditional expectations of how men should behave toward women.
- Outdated Hero vs. Improved Society: A hero's ideals is considered outdated by a modern society.
- Outdated Name: A name that was commonplace when a work premieres becomes less popular over time to the point where it seems anachronistic on the character.
- Outdated Outfit: A character wears an outfit that is considered out-of-date.
- Parents Are Wrong: Parents learn An Aesop that their traditional way of thinking is flawed.
- Revive the Ancient Custom: A character brings back old laws and customs.
- They Don't Make Them Like They Used To: A character prefers the more durable aspects of older designs over the more complex and fragile newer designs.
- When I Was Your Age...: A character of an older generation criticizes the modern generation for not having the standards they have.
- Your Tradition Is Not Mine: The character is opposed to the traditions of their family, clan, or organization.
