Love At First Sight / Fan Works

Go To

Danny Phantom

  • The Many Dates of Danny Fenton: While not outright stated, Danny has been shown to find many of the girls he has gone out with attractive and vice verse and at the beginning of the date, there is usually some degree of attraction. Kim Possible, his first date, was the first example. Danny was disinterested in going on blind dates until seeing what she looks like.

The DCU

  • DC Nation had Beast Boy and Fauna meeting each other in the middle of a battlefield, stark naked, and in full-on shape-shift mode. While not the most romantic of meetings, it certainly turned out well for them.
  • Subverted in Peggy Sue story New Beginnings (Smallville). Characters who are not privy to Clark Kent and Lois Lane being time-travellers believe they fell for each other as soon as they met. Chloe in particular fights the urge to cry when she sees her cousin and her crush bonding so easily.

Final Fantasy

  • Valentine's Day:
    • Kunsel's reaction to "Draculina", Vincent's alter ego. Takes some time, but they are now an Official Couple (it took some Destructo-Nookie though) and are currently expecting their first child.
    • The same thing happens to Zack towards Rosso and Genesis towards Aerith. The author appears fond of this trope.

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed

  • Gold Poisons has Lan Xichen falling in love with Jin Guangyao at first sight, though he didn't recognize that that had happened at the moment.

Luca

Marvel Universe

  • Many, many Captain America/Iron Man slash fics have Tony falling in love with Steve the moment the Avengers free Cap from deep freeze.

Mass Effect

  • Weightless (Mass Effect) have Garrus falls for Shepard right at the moment he sees her. Since the chapter is written from Garrus's POV, we don't know much about Shepard. But later, it reveals that she does falls for him from the beginning, too.

Miraculous Ladybug

  • Discussed and Averted in Leave for Mendeleiev after Nino alters the movie script Alya wrote for him to wedge in a kissing scene without clearing it with anyone... including the actors. He attempts to justify the move by citing this; Marinette expresses disbelief at the notion that anyone could fall in love without getting to know the person first. Adrien defends the idea, and is insulted when Marinette insists that she wouldn't be tempted to kiss him in 'the heat of the moment', as he's used to fangirls fawning all over him and suspects she might be Ladybug, whom he feels entitled to.

The Legend of Korra

  • In Unstable Equilibrium, Korra falls for Asami right after the older girl offers to pay for her fish.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • Arddun Lleuad has the protagonist end up mysteriously in another world (Equestria), and he falls in love with the moon as soon as he sees it. However, he has actually fallen in love with the princess that controls the moon.
  • Inner Demons: Lezard eventually confesses to having fallen in love with Apple Bloom the moment they met. The fact that she's actually a ten-year old forcibly aged to adulthood causes him no small amount of angst.
  • In The Nyxverse, this is pretty much the case with Twilight Sparkle and Ink Spot.
  • On a Cross and Arrow Fluttershy and Rarity both fall in love with their male alternate-universe counterparts (Butterscotch and Elusive, respectively) instantly.
    • In Rarity's case, she actually invokes this trope. Claiming she knows herself well enough to sedu... er... deduce that Elusive would be "the perfect gentlecolt" to her "fair lady." Turns out she was right as she knew what subtle queues and innuendos to follow. Elusive actually picks up on this and takes their tennis match flirtation up to eleven when he finally asks Prince Solaris to what could amount to a marriage proposal!

Neon Genesis Evangelion

  • A Crown of Stars: In chapter 35 Shinji ponders that he has been in love with Asuka since the day they met. Several chapters later Asuka declares that he is his and Shinji answers that he has always been.
  • The Child of Love: In the epilogue Shinji tells he should have told Asuka “I love you” as soon as they met for first time in the aircraft carrier.
  • HERZ: During pillow talk in chapter 2 Shinji confirms Asuka he has always been hers and he has loved her since he met her.
  • Last Child of Krypton: Shinji fell for Asuka as soon as he saw her after rescuing a falling plane where she was travelling. He thought she was the most beautiful girl he had met, and he was trying very hard to not gape.
  • In Nanoha Genesis Evangelion Nanoha struggles during the first half of the fanfic understanding what exactly her new found feelings and attraction towards Fate are which she describes as feelings she's never felt for anyone else before. It's not until she's trapped inside Leliel's Pocket Dimension and is slowly dying that she realises that she has been in love with Fate since she decided to become a Magical Girl.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genocide: In chapter 11, Shinji realizes that he has been in love with Asuka since they first met:
It was not, he realized, that he was there for her. It was simply that he was hers. That he belonged to her — all of him. He always had, ever since meeting her.
  • Thousand Shinji: Shinji fell really, really, really HARD for Asuka as soon as he met her.

Omen IV: The Awakening

  • Always Visible: This is precisely the driving force of the plot - Jordan Thurlow and Galbraith develop feelings for Delia when they see her for the first time for themselves.

The Owl House

  • Subverted in How To Tame Your Demon Beast - as Luz swoons over Caleb Wittebane's romance with the witch Evelyn, the man confesses he actually was fairly hostile towards the beautiful young foreigner who didn't care about social norms, as he was thoroughly trapped by Puritan expectations on gender interactions and paranoia regarding outsiders. It took him chasing her in the Boiling Isles and getting to spend more time with her to defrost.

Pokémon

  • In Chrysanthemums, Cilan begins falling for Iris the moment he sees her:
She had clear, olive skin that looked soft to the touch and large chestnut eyes he knew he would never forget. In that moment he was caught in her gaze, an encounter that made his chest swell and his heart race. The only thing he could do was look away, flushed.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms

  • Sun Quan and Lu Su in Farce of the Three Kingdoms. Their first introduction leads to a date night (and world domination plans), and their relationship continues for decades, only ending with Lu Su's death.

Supergirl

  • Hellsister Trilogy: Kara feels smitten with Dev-Em as soon as he shows up.
The man was about Kara's age, brown-haired, handsome in a James Deanish way, dressed in a simple green costume, and quite confident in manner. Despite herself, Kara caught her breath. He was... interesting.

Teen Wolf

  • In Fly a Little Faster, teenage Derek pretty much falls for time-traveling Stiles at first sight. Since it is from Stiles POV it is not very evident at first, but it is explained in the writer's comments.

Thomas & Friends

  • In A Cracked Ruby, James is smitten with Molly the second he lays eyes on her.

X-Men

  • X-Men: The Early Years: Cyclops and Jean Grey Jean fell for each other since day one. Too bad they were utterly oblivious to each other's feelings.
Scott: Fine! I care for you too much to be just your friend any more! Every time I see you out with another guy, it rips my heart out! I've loved you from the moment I set eyes on you! I won't play this game anymore."
    Jean: Scott...
    Scott: Don't.
Jean: You stubborn jerk! Don't you dare run away from me after saying that! I love you, too! I've loved you from the moment you helped me carry my suitcase up the stairs to my room, my first day at school.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Others

  • Luminosity has this as one of the things that simply happen to vampires and werewolves. This can be interesting if the other party is human, as they aren't affected, but generally they end up being turned—automatically mutual—or getting attached to the sheer devotion, respectively. Half-vampires for whom vampires fall get neither perk.
  • In My Inner Life, Jenna sees Link for the first time - "And then I fell in love."
  • Implied in The Student Prince, where Arthur states he had "never felt like [how he felt upon meeting Merlin] before".
  • In Icecloud's secrets, the protagonist, within minutes of meeting Ferretclaw, is imagining him playing with her unborn kits like a father would. That very night, she has an Erotic Dream about him. Incidentally, this all happened on the same day her old mate broke up with her.
  • In Tealove's Steamy Adventure, Tealove falls in love, hard, the instant she sees Big Macintosh. Big Mac doesn't reciprocate, but he comes around by the end of the story.
  • In Your servant, Mistress, Maleficent and Diaval. They are both into BDSM, and when he humbly bows to her and offers his services, she's smitten. Diaval admires her attire and the cool arrogance with which she verbally crushes a man who had insulted him. Maybe more lust at first sight, but they both act incredibly polite and discreet about it, and it does grow into love quickly as they are shown to care about each other emotionally, too.
  • In Broken (the fic's version of) Nightcloud states that Crowfeather "was my sun, my sky, my everything in life, from the moment he was born". That last part isn't a metaphor, by the way; this adolescent cat literally looked at Crowfeather when he was a kitten, "a little gray fuzz ball in [the] WindClan nursery", and thought 'he's my soulmate'. If Crowfeather's ensuing rejection of Nightcloud's affections are any indication, he found this as creepy as the fic's readers did.
  • In Black Sky, Xanxus is smitten the moment he laid eyes on Dorea.
  • Hanse and Cecilia in Riding the Dragon.
  • Victoria is rendered speechless during the Heralds' first meeting with the Inquisition council in All This Sh*t is Twice as Weird. As she's later startled to discover, she was not the only one.
  • As Dreams Are Made On turns upon this trope, as Alice Cullen falls for the protagonist (who has landed in the body of Bella Swan) the second they meet in person, though it's later clarified that vampires don't always form instant mating bonds, and that the majority form relationships over time, which can eventually solidify into unbreakable bonds. There is a second instance of the trope later on, when Kate of the Denali sisters forms an instant mating bond with Charlie Swan, and as in the Twilight novels, the Quileute shifters do have imprints, though there are some variations from canon there.
  • A Possible Encounter for a Phantom: Danny Fenton quickly developed a strong attraction to Kim Possible the moment he met her and a majority of the story is Ship Tease with her despite him being 2 years younger.
  • In I've Got Your Back, Pearl falls for Marina the first time they meet. She sees Marina as a Street Musician and loves her music, but she falls in love when she sees Marina's face from under her hoodie.
  • Fates Collide:
    • Emerald is immediately smitten with Robin Hood when she meets him.
    • Neo and Henry Jekyll seem to hit it off as soon as they meet.
    • Ren confides with Robin Hood that he fell in love with Kiyohime as soon as he met her.
  • Lost to Dust: Ruby Rose becomes smitten with Charlemagne as soon as she sees him.
  • Ruby Pair: As soon as Keef first sees Tenn in "Welcome to Urth", he falls head over heels for her. To Tenn's disgust.
  • In the Once Upon a Time/Mr. Right fanfic Love at First Sight (Once Upon a Time), Emma and Regina meet one day at the grocery store and instantly fall in love with each other. The two are so in love that Regina's friends Kathryn and Mary Margaret comment that it is not normal.
  • Auburn Strands And Red Threads: Inuyasha fell for Orihime the moment he meets her. Although, being saved by her twice also plays a factor to him developing romantic feelings for her. However, he is initially convinced she is witch who has put him under some type of spell.
  • In Manehattan's Lone Guardian, Gray Ghost falls into the ocean after suffering a busted wing. When Ocean Guard rescues her, Gray immediately becomes smitten with him, with Ocean strongly implied to reciprocate that feeling. The love that results lasts clear to the story's present day.
