"My description of Wand & Steel (Wand and Steel, to those who prefer) is basically just the most extreme mashup of genres in existence. You got Steampunk, Dieselpunk, High Fantasy, Cyberpunk, and many other things. A suitable way to describe it is a genre mashup mixed with a self-genre mashup."
theace, when describing Wand and Steel

Wand and Steel (Often written as Wand & Steel or W&S) is a mashup between a Science Fiction genre universe and a High Fantasy one. As well as those, there are other genres mixed in, such as Steampunk, slight elements of Gaslamp Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Diesel Punk, Desert Punk, [very small elements of] Urban Fantasy, and a whole bunch of other genres. Written by theaceofspace (Also known as Jasper or Jackson) and AliCat Cookie (Also known as Ali) (Those are the names they refer to themselves as, not their real names and somewhat not their usernames), and uploaded monthly on no apparent date onto DeviantArt, it falls in the category of Web Serial Novel, because illustrations are pretty much non-existent.

List of Tropes

NOTE: The story has not been completed yet, so the tropes are still a work in progress.

Affectionate Parody:

  • The United Alliance's name is a parody of non-creative science fiction organization names
  • The origin story of Hospora is a parody of weird creation-of-the-world stories

Author Avatar: Jackson and Ali are those for well... Jasper/Jackson and Ali.

Patchwork Map: Hospora. Taken even more literally when the presumed origin of Hospora is that the goddess of the Hosporan religion took the surfaces off the planets that orbited a dying sun, "sewn" them together, and put the planet-blanket on a flat planet orbiting a non-dying sun.

Running Gag: Several.
