No, not the opera composer. This Verdi is a male Green Tree Python who desires to remain young. Naturally, he fails miserably.

Verdi is a short children's book published by author/illustrator Janell Cannon.

This book provides examples of:

  • An Aesop:
    • Change isn't necessarily a bad thing.
    • Also, your appearance isn’t what truly defines who you are. Verdi becomes big and green and learns to take things easy like the other green snakes, but in the end, he discovers that he’s also still the same active snake he was before turning green.
  • Animal Talk: It's a story about a snake, what did you expect?
  • Badbutt: Verdi is practically a daredevil in snake form.
  • Chameleon Camouflage: Mentioned.
"Grow up big and green— as green as the trees' leaves."
  • Cool Old Guy: Verdi becomes this towards the end.
  • Gasshole: Umbles, possibly.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Verdi feels this way initially, but learns that being big and green isn’t all bad, and that he’s still a younger snake at heart.
  • Meaningful Name: "Verdi" means green. You don't want to know what Umbles means, though.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Verdi fought off a large catfish that tried to make a meal out of him. Although he was real lucky.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
"In his joy, Verdi forgot he would fall back to earth."
  • Two Guys and a Girl: Aggie, Umbles, and Ribbon, it seems.
