In 1985, a publishing company called Kid Stuff produced several Transformers storybooks. These include:

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: While Megatron is usually a Bad Boss, here he rivals Galvatron in this department.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In most series, Soundwave is best known for his Villainous Friendship with Megatron. Here however, he is pretty much The Chew Toy to Megatron and is constantly called a "tape-filled idiot".
  • Adapted Out: Energon is never mentioned in any of these books and instead, Megatron is obsessed with obtaining massive amounts of oil.
  • Alternate Continuity: These books appear to be separate from both the cartoon and comics.
  • Bad Boss: Megatron is very abusive to Soundwave.
  • Big Bad: Megatron, as per usual, is the leader of the Decepticons.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: These books have unbelievable amounts of this such as thousands of humans being compressed into diamond in "Satellite of Terror" followed by Jetfire's death when he burns up after his failed attempt at destroying the satellite as well as millions of humans dying when the Rocky Mountains are melted.
  • Karma Houdini: Although, their plans ultimately fail, Megatron and Soundwave always escape at the end before the Autobots can confront them.
  • Lack of Empathy: Megatron isn't bothered at all by the fact that his plans usually lead to millions of people being killed.
  • On The Next Episode Of Catchphrase: "And the battle continues..."
  • The Starscream: Shockwave manages to get most of the Decepticons to leave Megatron in "Jaws of Terror".
  • Undying Loyalty: Despite all the abusive he receives, Soundwave still remains loyal to Megatron.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Skyfire dies in "Satellite of Doom" but returns in subsequent stories with no explanation.
