Toon-Up is an original fictional story written by gelefant.

It details the origin of the North Indian superhero Cartoon Boy.


Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Ajay is bullied by everybody because his love of animation and strong sense of humor annoy others. After he goes missing, his classmates don't care and make absolutely no effort to find him.
  • Anvil on Head: Zane is hit on the head by an anvil with unusual properties and gains superpowers as a result. His main power is actually creating and manipulating anvils. During his and Ajay's fight, he constantly bombards the boy with anvils, which barely have any effect.
  • Ash Face: After Ajay's Squahsed Flat by a large truck, he's shot by a mugger. The only thing that happens to Ajay is having his face blackened by gunpowder. He then coughs and puffs out a ring of smoke.
  • Bear Hug: Ajay's parents give him one of these when he comes home after the incident with the vat of toxic ink and paint.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Ajay has a large, yellow C emblazoned on the front of his superhero costume.
  • Chest Insignia:
    • Zane gains a black anvil symbol on his chest as part of his superpowers.
    • Ajay has a large, yellow C emblazoned on the front of his superhero costume.
  • Evil Teacher/Sadist Teacher: Ajay's teachers do nothing to stop the bullying and even frequently encourage it. After he goes missing, his teachers don't care and make absolutely no effort to find him. The staff at the animation studio the class was visiting have to force the teachers to file a missing person report.
  • Friendless Background: Ajay has no friends because his love of animation and strong sense of humor annoy them.
  • Healing Factor: Ajay gains this as one of his superpowers.
  • Immune to Bullets: Ajay and Zane gain this as one of their superpowers.
  • Idea Bulb: When Ajay gets an idea on how he can defeat Zane, a literal lightbulb appears above his head.
  • Origins Episode: For Cartoon Boy himself.
  • Piano Drop: The last thing that happens to Ajay on his way home is having a piano fall on him from the top of somebody's high-rise apartment. He emerges from the rubble with a mouth full of piano keys like teeth. The keys then play themselves.
  • Rubber Man: Ajay gains this as one of his superpowers. While being mugged, he accidentally elongates his arm when he punches the mugger.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: Zane can turn his hand into an anvil.
  • Slapstick: Ajay's powers and his fight with Zane absolutely reek of this genre.
  • Squashed Flat: After Ajay emerges from the vat of toxic ink and paint, the first thing that happens to him on his way home is getting hit, run over, and flattened by a large truck.
  • Standard Snippet: "We're in the Money" plays in Ajay's head when his parents tell him how much money they got from the lawsuit they filed against the school for his disappearance.
  • Super-Speed: Ajay gains this as one of his superpowers.
  • Super-Strength: Both Ajay and Zane gain this as one of their superpowers.
  • Super-Toughness: Both Ajay and Zane gain this as one of their superpowers.
  • Teeth Flying: Ajay gets a tooth knocked out during his fight with Zane. He grows another one in a matter of seconds.
  • Toxic Waste Can Do Anything: Ajay falls into a vat of toxic ink and paint and gains superpowers afterwards.
  • Wingding Eyes: Ajay's eyes turn into giant green dollar signs when his parents tell him how much money they got from the lawsuit they filed against the school for his disappearance.
  • Zany Cartoon: Ajay is this in superhero form. He's a Rubber Man who suffers an Ash Face, a Piano Drop, and being Squashed Flat without so much as a scratch.
