The Unexplained (1999) is a book series that provides young readers information about various paranormal phenomena and other "unexplained" events published by Scholastic
. Throughout the books are sections called Food For Thought which encourage readers to think critically. At the end of each book; though before the Index, is a page labeled Did You Know? which provides readers with more facts about each books topic.

- Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Discussed in the Monsters book.
- Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Every book in this series is about something that can't be explained.

- Flying Dutchman: "The Flying Dutchman" and other ghost ships are mentioned and discussed in Ghosts.
- Flying Saucer: As to be expected they're present and discussed in the UFO book.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: According to the book Ghosts one interpretation of the mermaid is that they're ghosts looking for a soul.
- Shout-Out: Screenshots from various films make it into the books.
- Stock Ness Monster: Discussed in the Monsters book.
