A story about three girls:

  • A schoolgirl who stalks the city streets, trying to destroy a deadly evil whilst hiding under a lilac cover...
  • Her daughter, who lies awake at night pondering her fate as she sees a bizarre shadow following her everywhere...
  • And a child, the daughter of two people who were never supposed to meet, who witnesses all the carnage with a strangely-calm disposition...

Part of The Wario Barker Collection, inspired by (and started in Fall 2009 as a response to) this artwork. Originally intended as a oneshot, positive reception caused it to become a multi-chapter story.

Eventually stalled, with the story stopping after Chapter 4 was posted. In order, the chapters were "Reasons"; "Home"; "Darkness"; and "Storm" (last three contain some mature content; DeviantArt account is required to view).

This story provides examples of:

  • Crapsack World: Suggested by Allura's comments in Chapter 1, although the area was in fact mostly evacuated.
  • Curse Cut Short: Done many a time with Chrissie, thanks to Allura.
  • Medium Awareness: Chrissie.
Chrissie: Mother, I know my attitude has changed considerably since we first left this planet, but....it's a part of me. It's part of who I am-
Allura: The way you are now...it wasn't supposed to be a part of you...
Chrissie: But if I left that behind, I would be a much flatter cha--person than I am now.
  • Mythology Gag: In Chapter 2, it's mentioned that Nadimia was taught by her parents that seeing a specific symbol (which she finds on the kitchen wall of Allura and Chrissie's house) meant she would be safe there. A vague description is given from her point of view, but was intended to be the Seal of Rassilon, denoting those whom the Doctor considered friends.
  • Noodle Incident: Allura does not want Chrissie to talk about what happened at Machu Piccu (not Machu Picchu).
  • Only Sane Girl: Nadimia. Not only have Allura and Chrissie been run ragged due to having to hunt down the creatures, but also because of the events orchestrated by the Boss.
  • Parallel Porn Titles: Chapter 2 originally had Chrissie looking through TV listings and reading off four titles, two of which paralleled stories the author had previously written. The author had published one (The First Story), but the other (The Twelve Dimensions, which sets up a sizable chunk of Allura and Chrissie's backstory) never saw release - and, indeed, a majority of it was never written.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Allura and Chrissie.
  • The Reveal: Toward the end of the story, Allura manages to sneak up behind the Boss and stabs him in the back repeatedly, to which he doesn't even flinch. After a brief conversation, Allura realizes he should at least be bleeding and spins him around, only to discover he was an Auton all along. Only moments afterward, she gets injected with a human-size syringe that had been inside it, leading to an even bigger reveal once she regains sub-consciousness (see "Wham Line", below).
  • Wham Line: Upon regaining sub-consciousness from the above event, Allura sees an unfamiliar figure at the controls of her mind.
Figure: It is quite a pleasure to be your poison, Mrs. McCoy.
(the figure swivels around, the various controls continuing to move on their own)
    Allura: No...
    (the figure smiles)
Susan Wise: I never die, for I am the Poison.
