The Black Rainbow is a supernatural horror story by Lightysnake, and crossover between The Never Mythos and The Kindness of Devils, the fourth entry in the Lonely Dreams Cycle. It can be read here.

A Neverkind Prequel: In the days of the Old World, a young Lucia is plagued by doubts over her own nature, meeting with a dark kindred spirit who she believes understands her.

Tropes:

  • Antagonistic Offspring:
    • The Matriach is a wise benevolent ruler who cares for her daughters and everyone under her rule, but Lucia harbors nothing but contempt for them.
    • Azazel plans on taking the throne from his mother Lilith, but currently fears her great power.
  • Cain and Abel:
    • Lucia's siblings are benevolent beings who care for all forms of life, but Lucia has contempt for lesser beings that is brought into sharp relief by her meeting with Azazel Baal.
    • Azazel has plans to take the throne and already killed one of them his older brothers.
  • The Corrupter: Azazel Baal is the one that encourages Lucia's true nature, stirring her contempt for lesser beings into the sadism she shows as the Shadow Consultant.
  • Evil Prince: Azazel is not the High King yet, but shows the same cruelty. He arranges one of his brother's death, and is planing on making a move on the current King, his mother Lilith.
  • Sibling Murder: Azazel recalls having his brute Morviak kill one of his brothers. Given that he was the youngest, he must have done the same to the rest of them to get to the throne.
  • Start of Darkness: For Lucia who has her worst nature encouraged by Azazel Baal, causing the behavior that got her expelled from the Daydreamers, which in turn caused her to become the sadistic vengeance driven Shadow Consultant.
  • Unholy Matrimony: Hah. No. Despite being illicit lovers, Azazel and Lucia's relationship is fueled by boredom and narcissistic lust at the reflection of themselves in one another.
  • Villain Protagonist: Lucia and Azazel are two of the Neverkind Saga's most sadistic villains, and they the main focus of the story.
