The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense, is an illustrated middle-grade Star Wars novel by Joe Johnston, who had yet to act as a director but worked as a production designer for Star Wars: Ewok Adventures. This book is set earlier and is more of a Sword and Sorcery tale following the Ewok's apprentice shaman and the other warriors of his tribe going on a mission to rescue kidnapped children from a forest full of sinister and mysterious forces.

Tropes

  • Accidental Murder: Warok accidentally whacks King Ulgo with his glider during a struggle over Warok wanting to take birds the Dulok has trapped, causing the latter being to stumble off a cliff and fall to his death.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Teebo is too young to be invited to join the war party, but follows them anyway due to his sister being one of the kidnapping victims and Teebo being determined to help her.
  • Cruel Mercy: Vulgarr survives the final battle, but is subjected to a magic curse that leaves him catatonic, is planted in the ground, and transforms into a twisted, ugly tree.
  • Faceless Mooks: The giant-spider-riding Yuzzum spearmen who chase Teebo are only shown in the shadows and have glowing eyes but no other visible features.
  • Gentle Giant: The Grudakk is big enough to pick up an Ewok in its hands, but, despite being accused of being a kidnapper, he is a kind-hearted guardian of the forest.
  • Hunter Trapper: King Ulgo is a mix between this and an Evil Poacher, as he lives alone in a cave and uses snares to trap lantern birds that he eats, trades, or uses as light sources. This angers the Ewoks, who see the birds as sacred and magical.
  • Manipulative Bastard: The Dulok Vulgarr kidnaps a few Ewok children, then tells them the culprit is the giant Grudakk to make them think they will need all of their warriors for a rescue mission and go on a wild goose while leaving the village undefended for him to kidnap the remaining children.
  • Translation Convention: None of the Endor natives speak Basic, but their dialogue is conveyed in English.
  • Villain of Another Story: King Ulgo is a mean old Dulok who happily wears the skins of dead Ewoks and wants to eat their sacred lantern birds, but he rules a kingdom of one and keeps to himself, while his rival King Vulgarr has a large war band and is happy to raid Ewok villages and eat their young.
