A fantasy series written by P.C. Cast.

The first book Moon Chosen, originally titled Earth Walker, was released on October 18th, 2016. The fantasy series was purchased in a three-book world rights deal with St. Martin’s Press publisher Sally Richardson. The length of the series has since been expanded, and there is potential for companion novellas to be released in the future as well.

Books in the series so far:

  • Moon Chosen (2016)
  • Sun Warrior (2017)
  • Wind Rider (2018)

The Tales of a New World contain examples of:

  • Ambiguously Brown: For the Earth Walkers, whose skin is described as a "dirty, earthy color".
  • Black Face / Brown Face: Given the ambiguity of the ethnicity of Earth Walkers, it's hard to say exactly which of these tropes exactly apply, but Mari applies a paste made of dirt to her skin and hair so she blends in with the darker skinned Earth Walkers.
  • Child of Two Worlds: Mari. Her mother is an Earth Walker and her father was a Companion.
  • Dehumanizing Insult: Earth Walkers are called Scratchers, which is definitely a slur of some kind. Conversely, there is no slur against the Companions, not even among the Earth Walker community.
  • Ethnic Menial Labor: The Earth Walkers to the Companions, who regularly capture and enslave the women to work on Farm Island for them.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: This is what Mari expects to happen to her should the Earth Walkers see her pale skin and blonde hair, but no one ever actually reacts to it when it's finally revealed.
