Star Cursed is the second part of the Cahill Witch Chronicles, wherein Cate joined the Sisterhood, and has to get used to a new life among the Sisters. Eventually, her sisters are also taken to the Sisterhood, and there is an ongoing conflict between Cate and Maura, while they are both protective towards the youngest, Tess.
Star Cursed contains examples of:
- Bad Powers, Good People: Cate finds out her ability to heal can be used for the reverse effect, too, and is deeply upset about this.
- Ban on Magic: The Brotherhood enforces this with an iron fist.
- Healing Magic Is the Hardest: Healing magic requires knowledge about human anatomy, and takes a toll on the witch; Cate gets an headache whenever she heals someone.
- Lethal Harmless Powers: Cate is conflicted about most of her magical abilites. Healing, she thinks, is harmless. Turns out she's wrong, she can kill with that ability by reversing it. She's very upset when she is told that.
- Power Limiter: The women imprisoned in what is allegedly an insane aslyum and hospital are drugged, which counteracts the magical powers of those who are witches.
- Wizard Duel: A fight between to girls at the Sisterhood becomes a rather mild version of this, as they place silly-looking illusions over the other.
- Sibling Rivalry: Cate and Maura have an ongoing rivalry. The youngest, Tess, stays out of it.
- The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Cate and Maura. A bit more nuanced, as Cate is the clever and sensible one, while Maura is maybe just as intelligent, but more impulsive. They compete for the friendship of their peers, mostly.
