The Adventure Continues

Shin High School D×D (lit. "True High School D×D") is an ongoing light novel series set in the High School D×D universe. One year after becoming a devil, Issei Hyoudou is still pursuing his dream to have a harem.

Like the previous series, Shin High School D×D is written by Ichiei Ishibumi and published by Fujimi Shobo. The first volume was released on July 20, 2018.

Shin High School D×D provides examples of:

  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed. The series picks up where the previous one left off, during the middle of the Azazel Cup. Because of the story's main focus being on Issei's team, most of the Occult Research Club members not on his team get reduced screen time, Akeno in particular.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: In Volume 3, the villains ambush Issei and co. outside of a crowded restaurant, forcing Yasaka (who was accompanying them at the time) to improvise a makeshift Phantom Zone barrier so that they could fight without the fighting threatening the Muggles. However, the barrier is weak due to being hastily created, preventing the heroes from going completely all out (so no stuff like Dragon Drive) at risk of breaking the barrier.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Ingvild wakes up after 100 years to realize everyone she knew is dead.
  • Foregone Conclusion: As with the previous series, the fact that Issei will become Harem King should be clear given the latter will marry all of the girls in his harem and have children with them in EX.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Nyx brainwashes Ingvild to take advantage of her Nereid Kyrie, a Brown Note to Dragons, as a deterrent to powerful threats to her alliance like Issei and Vali. Later on, Issei figures out that Ingvild’s songs can instead be used to strengthen Dragons. Nyx and her army of artificial Devils quickly get pulverized.
  • Immediate Sequel: The series picks up right after the end of High School D×D.
  • Shoot the Medic First: In Volume 2, Ravel puts a priority on retiring Rias' healer Valerie, and correctly predicts that they'll also prioritize retiring Issei's healer Asia.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Two of the teams in the Azazel Cup end up losing due to realistic complications rather than outright tactics or force:
      • Sairaorg's team, Team Imperial Purpure, goes up against Team Shooting Star, a team of talented people who otherwise went unnoticed, like a Low-Class Devil with monstrous strength or a mage who can only use basic spells but with insane power, all lead by the wielder of the titular reclassified Longinus. Team Shooting Star manages to put Sairaorg and his peerage on the ropes at first, but because they're unexpected newcomers, they're also the only team in the main tournament without proper sponsors or support, which means that they hadn't been receiving proper post-match care. Thus, the built-up damage and exhaustion meant that they weren't able to fight at full capacity and Sairaorg ends up winning Victory by Endurance.
      • Team Black Satan of Darkness Dragon King, a team made up of Maou-class and Transcendental-class Artificial Devils and led by a High-Class Grim Reaper, ends up losing to Team Babel Belial, the team of Rating Game Champion Diehauser Belial. While the Artificial Devils were far more powerful, they were also mentally children, and thus couldn't coordinate well, especially against experienced veterans such as Belial and his team. Balberith, one of the Transcendental-classes, in particular, was too focused on replicating moves from the Oppai Dragon show he liked instead of fighting more intelligently.
    • Just because its leadership was killed off doesn't mean that the Khaos Brigade is gone. Its spies and researchers just went underground until they could find another group to back.
  • Team-Based Tournament: The Azazel Cup is a tournament-style Ratings Game in which teams of up to ten participants compete for the grand prize of one wish. Unlike a regular Ratings Game, which is typically held between Devils and their peerages, the Azazel Cup allows participants from any species.
