Scars are Forever
is an original fictional story written by gelefant.
It deals with Jermaine getting a scar and how it affects him.
Tropes:
- The Corruption: The doctors tell Jermaine and his family that the venom from the rattlesnake that bit him and gave him the scar will cloud his judgment and thinking to the point he may not be able to tell right from wrong. Thankfully, he doesn't actually turn evil, just a bit more irritable.
- Death of a Child: At the end, Jermaine, who's only in kindergarten, is killed when he's hit and run over by a speeding car.
- Eye Scream: Jermaine is bitten near his left eye by a rattlesnake and gains a scar because of it.
- Good Parents: Jermaine's parents are incredibly patient, supportive, and understanding concerning the side effects of his scar. His mother even tells his teacher not to be too hard on him as a result.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: The doctors tell Jermaine and his family that the venom from the rattlesnake that bit him and gave him the scar will cloud his judgment and thinking to the point he may not be able to tell right from wrong. Thankfully, he doesn't actually turn evil, just a bit more irritable.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: As mentioned above, Jermaine becomes more irritable and short-tempered because of the rattlesnake's venom inside him.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: As mentioned above, Jermaine's parents do their best to help Jermaine deal with the side effects of his scar. His teacher does the exact same thing, not even getting angry during his venom-induced outburst in class.
- Sanity Slippage: The rattlesnake's venom threatens to make Jermaine insane. Thankfully, this doesn't happen. He just becomes a bit more irritable.
- Scars Are Forever: It's even in the title! Jermaine's scar is permanent.
- Shout-Out: Jermaine being bitten by a snake, gaining a scar, and becoming more irritable as a result of the snake's venom is a reference to Kion's story arc during season three of The Lion Guard.
