- Abusive Parents: It's mentioned that Shemar's mother hits him.
- All Asians Know Martial Arts: Averted. Mr. Takeuchi gets attacked and is unable to defend himself.
- Asian and Nerdy: Downplayed with Mr. Takeuchi. It's stated that he's a teacher, but it's unknown what subject he teaches or what his physical appearance is like.
- The Ghost: Shemar's mother and Mistress Maria are mentioned a bit but they don't make any appearances. Justified by the length of the story.
- Henshin Hero: Shemar powers up into a "tight suit of armor" in order to save Mr. Takeuchi.

- Named After Somebody Famous: Mr.Takeuchi shares a surname with mangaka Naoko Takeuchi.
- Properly Paranoid: The opening of the story establishes that Shemar went shopping with Mr. Takeuchi because he knew that someone would attack him.
- Psychologist Teacher: Mr. Takeuchi is said to be Shemar's teacher, but we only see them discussing Shemar's family troubles.
- Tempting Fate: The woman who attacks Mr. Takeuchi tells Shemar that he can't stop her.
- Tranquil Fury: Shemar notes that Mr. Takeuchi sounds "calm but threatening" at the idea that Shemar's mother might still be hitting him. Mr. Takeuchi's only physical reaction to is to narrow his eyes and ask about it.
