The Daughter of Evil: Praefacio of Blue is the final Light Novel in The Daughter of Evil Light Novel series of the Evillious Chronicles franchise, a part of the Story of Evil series within said franchise. It was written by the Japanese producer Akuno-P (mothy) and illustrated by Ichika (with the cover done by Yuurin), released 2012.
The plot follows where the previous novel Praeludium Of Red left off, with Kyle, Yukina, Germaine, and Gumillia traveling to Marlon to learn about the evil that had been afoot in Evillious over the last five years. Told mostly through Kyle’s point of view, the story focuses on him coming to grips with several dark secrets about his own family and already horrible mother as he and Yukina unravel their conspiracy.
As in Praeludium, Yukina is also a Point of View character in certain points of the novel, and during the final stretch she discovers some nasty family secrets of her own. The story’s conclusion is expanded on in Epic of Evil: The Daughter of Evil Fanbook, with its consequences carrying on into the Gift From the Princess Who Brought Sleep novel. The light novel provides examples of:
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: The novel ends with a scene involving Gallerian Marlon, hundreds of years later (a trend that's taken up in the next series of novels).
- Ax-Crazy: Ney completely loses control in the end, murdering her mother, becoming possessed by Conchita's glass, and trying to kill Kyle.
- Battle in the Rain: When Kyle leads his assault on Castle Hedgehog and the dead soldiers surrounding it, it's pouring rain out.
- Big Damn Heroes: Germaine does this at least four times in the novel. First is in the beginning, when fighting against the pirates who have taken Kyle hostage. Second is during the fight with an Abyss controlled Elluka in the forest, saving Gumillia from bears. Third is jumping in to save Kyle from Ney during their confrontation in the clocktower. And fourth is rescuing Yukina from her possessed mother after being guided there by Allen and Rin.
- Bittersweet Ending: By the novel’s end the conspiracy enacted by Prim and Abyss I.R. is over, and the countries involved can all begin to heal—but it’s going to be a long and arduous process to undo all the damage that was done.
- On a more personal note, Kyle has now lost almost all of his family and Yukina is in the process of losing her gravely injured father. The character aftermaths in the Fanbook detail even more BittersweetEndings for the characters.
- Child by Rape: It’s revealed that Prim used the powers of the Venom Sword to seduce Arth and have sex with him, leading to Ney's birth.
- Chocolate Baby: Prim explains that Ney's blonde hair meant that she could not have been the child of the blue-haired Marlon king, forcing her to cover up her infidelity by handing her off to Abyss I.R. and claiming the baby was stillborn.
- Clock Tower: One features in the confrontation with Prim, Heartbeat Clocktower on top of Castle Hedgehog.
- Covers Always Lie: The cover depicts Kyle confidently smiling and wielding his sword. The book itself features Kyle wracked with extreme guilt and doubt over the revelations about his family that he discovers.
- Deuteragonist: As before, Kyle and Yukina both share a spotlight in the story from their respective journeys of discovery.
- Empathic Environment: Marlon’s weather patterns are oddly appropriate in this novel; raining during the battle when Kyle confronts Ney and his mother, sunny when the battle is finished, and then getting cloudy again when Kyle learns Mikina has gone missing and Yukina has gone to look for her.
- Heel–Face Door-Slam: For Ney Futapie, who is given a chance to apologize for her actions to Kyle in spirit, but dies before it can affect anything in the real world.
- Heroic BSoD: Yukina gets hit hard with this after Mikina confesses to assisting Abyss, helping kick off the Green Hunting and telling Ney where Michaela was. When Abyss surrounds Yukina with fire, she's still too shocked to do anything but give up and wait to die.
- Earlier Kyle Marlon became near catatonic once he found out Ney Futapie was his sister.
- Just Between You and Me: As Kyle confronts his mother for all she's done in the series, she falls into this kind of monologue—in fact, she gets so into it that she ends up ignoring the psychotic Ney, who ultimately kills her a few seconds later.
- Make It Look Like an Accident: Prim asks Abyss I.R. to do this to Arth, leading to his being infected by Gula.
- Out-of-Character Alert: Yukina figures out that the person claiming to be Elluka may not actually be her because she claimed to hate tea when she was offered it, called Gumillia by an incorrect name, and didn't even remember Yukina's name.
- Post-Climax Confrontation: In the final chapter, after the conspiracy the group spent two books unraveling has already collapsed, Yukina and Germaine end up confronting Abyss I.R. using Mikina as a host. This was after they thought they'd defeated the mage.
- Storming the Castle: Kyle storms Castle Hedgehog to discover the truth about his mother and stop a horde of undead soldiers.
- Tap on the Head: Keel gets knocked out by Abyss I.R. who comes to kill Ney and take the sin vessels, but it's sadly averted in that he sustains a crippling head injury for the rest of his (now shorter) life.
- Treachery Cover-Up: After the climactic battle with Prim and Ney, Kyle covers up their crimes to keep the country from falling into chaos.
- Villainous Breakdown: A violent and disturbing one happens to Ney as she succumbs to the Demon of Gluttony.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After Ney Futapie is subdued by the heroes, she's murdered by Abyss I.R., who uses the opportunity to collect the vessels.
- You're Insane!: Kyle says this to Prim when he finds out that she caused over two decades of suffering to get back at Anne for an imagined slight.
