Monsters Among Humanity is a story written on Wattpad by CrystallicWolf108. It focuses on Zephixa Scaleton, a kindhearted lamia, and her life living among humans. She tries to follow her dreams of being a manga artist, but deals with a lot of discrimination and hate. She goes to Japan and befriends a lonely neko named Miyuki Nekolia, then she finds out that one of her former classmates, Cassie Sidero, is a vampire, who desperately doesn't want her secret to get out.

The story can be read here on wattpad.

Monsters Among Humanity contains examples of:

  • Fantastic Racism: Pretty much the theme of the story. A lot of people are racist towards monsters/non-humans to begin with, and it hasn’t completely died down. Zephixa spent her entire life dealing with racism from humans, Cassie and other vampires have to hide their race due to vampire hunters, and there is much more that the story hasn’t explored.
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: Zephixa and her friends are the Good, being the heroes of the story. Midnight is the Bad, as while he hunts the heroes, he genuinely tries to do the right thing and redeems himself in the end. Derek and Heather are the Evil, as they pursue the heroes for largely egotistical and malicious reasons.
  • Humans Are Flawed: It’s discussed quite a few times on how a lot of humans are scared of monsters, and as a result, it caused a rift between them, and so, here comes the Fantastic Racism towards lamias, vampires and several others. However, it’s made clear that not all humans are bad, and that they just need enlightenment.
  • Monsters Anonymous: There is a secret society where non-humans such as lamias and vampires live together, supporting each over in a friendly community.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: This story’s vampires destroy a lot of vampire stereotypes. Not only are they not even close to an Always Chaotic Evil race unlike how they are portrayed, but they can survive in daylight, and they are able to enter houses whether invited or not. Most vampires get their blood from animals or blood banks too. Heck, a lot of the common vampire stereotypes are merely played as old wives’ tales in these.
  • Shout-Out: Zephixa mentions a humanoid axolotl manga artist, which is a reference to Axol from SMG4.
  • Villain Team-Up: We start off with Derek Hunter and Heather Pepitone teaming up to escape jail. Then, they team up with Midnight to hunt their respective victims.
