An 1892 short story by Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot focuses on Oxford medical student Abercrombie Smith who comes to believe that his neighbour Edward Bellingham is reanimating an ancient Egyptian mummy for his own murderous ends. The story is regarded as instrumental in helping develop the "killer mummy" Sub-Genre in horror fiction.

Lot No. 249 has been adapted as a segment for Tales from the Darkside, starring Christian Slater, and as a 2023 episode of the BBC anthology strand Ghost Stories for Christmas, starring Kit Harington and Freddie Fox, and adapted/directed by Mark Gatiss.
