I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills (Noumin Kanren no Skill bakka Agetetara Nazeka Tsuyoku Natta.) is a Light Novel series written by Shobonnu. Originally a Web Serial Novel serialized on the website Shousetsuka ni Narou from 2016 to 2018, it was picked up for print publication under the Monster Bunko imprint with illustrations by Sogawa, published from 2017 to 2018 for five volumes.

The story centers around Al Wayne, whose only goal is to be a top-class farmer while occasionally using his farm-related skills to help out his friends. One day, after his last skill level reaches its max, his life changes.

The series also has a manga adaptation that began serialization in Web Comic Action in 2018, and an anime adaptation that aired as part of the Fall 2022 anime season.

Tropes:

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Ouroboros was this for Al, but only temporarily.
  • Black Comedy Rape: The Orcs and why Al is terrified of them, male and female.
  • Body Horror: Averted. Helen couldn't be more excited to be able to find she can dragonize some of her body parts after being taken over by Ouroboros.
  • Came Back Wrong: Illvia, Al’s adopted little sister, was resurrected by the Evil God for some unknown reason. As a result, she’s more demented and cruel, but she still loves Al, in a VERY special way.
  • Cerebus Retcon: Al’s fanaticism to being a farmer and growing crops takes on a darker turn when it’s revealed it’s partially derived from his experiences with Illvia, an orphan girl who later become his adopted little sister. Not only did she have to steal food to survive before she met Al, but she later DIED during a famine caused by a nearby volcano erupting. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she died from malnutrition brought on by giving Al her rations and lying to him that she had been eating too.
  • Chick Magnet: Al, of course. To date he has love interests in the Princess of his kingdom (Fal), a guild receptionist and later semi-draconian adventurer (Helen), a descendent of the Hero (Ruri), and a young girl whose family specializes in making magic pendants (Linea), all of who he saved/helped in some manner.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Strongly averted, Al knows exactly how high his STG level is, but hides it as much as he can so he can keep his farm. Played with in regards to Al’s mother Luccia as she crushes Al with her hugs whenever she can despite his protests, though she seems to display this on Al alone.
  • The Dreaded: Played for laughs with Luccia, Al’s mother. Al and his father Gilles are terrified of her, Al for her over affectionate behavior towards him and for Gilles whenever he makes her mad.
  • Engineered Heroics: Prince Neidius, Prince of the neighboring kingdom engages in this to gain influence and power with other countries. By taking the human lover of a powerful demon hostage, he orders said demon to dispatch his allies to attack other kingdoms, before using a fake holy sword to “drive them away”.
  • God Was My Copilot: Al's childhood friend Testa, is eventually revealed to be the Evil God that gave both him and his adopted sister the "Lover of Nature" blessing that gave him his incredible strength.
  • Hope Crusher: The Malevolent Dragon Ouroboros literally thrives on this trope. He destroys villages, before absorbing the despair and fear from its people to live off of and to increase his own power. Moreover, he always leaves a single survivor from his attacks, so that they can spread the tales of his power and inadvertently create more despair when he later shows up to attack said survivor and whatever new home they may have.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Al's mother does this by sliding his mental image of the princess out of the way in annoyance.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Al's, second, biggest fear is Orcs... or at least what they want to do to him when they catch him. The only thing worse than that is his mother, Luccia.
