Akane and Hiyori Takanashi are two sisters from Japan, living ordinary lives after their parents and grandparents died. One day while on Christmas Holiday, their whole house are transported to a fantasy realm of magic. Their summoners then briefed them about the purpose of their summoning, which is to purify the land from the threat of miasma. Things roll down from there.

Isekai Omotenashi Gohan (異世界おもてなしご飯, lit. "Different World Hospitality Meals") is a light novel series written by Shinobumaru and illustrated by Kana Yuki, which was first published in 2016. It has been adapted into a manga which was serialized in Kadokawa's Young Ace Up magazine from 2017 to 2019, with art by Medamayaki.

Tropes in this work:

  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": There are equivalents of her native world's ingredients (plum, corn, soybean, etc) in the local market, though Akane sometimes needs Jade's help to identify what's the equivalent of what with magic.
  • Childhood Friends: The king, Levain, and Dalziel are fast friends since childhood.
  • The Chosen One: Hiyori, since she is the main reason the kingdom did the summoning.
  • The Fair Folk: The Fairy Queen Titania and characters associated with her have this distinct flavor.
  • Food Porn: While Akane's dishes are not really sophisticated, the uniqueness of the cooking elicits the natives' awe all the same.
  • Hero of Another Story: The story follows Akane's day-to-day activities, while Hiyori is The Chosen One whose adventures aren't the focus.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Levain (the prime minister of the realm) behaves like a jerk to Akane, but actually cares a lot about her and tries to shield the siblings from court intrigue.
  • Jumped at the Call: Hiyori takes on the task she is expected to do (purifying miasma) with little to no consideration. She burns out rather quickly, but Akane is there to be the pillar she can lean on.
  • King Incognito: Though arguably still in his estate, the king (in plainclothes) accompanies Dalziel to a drinking party in Akane's house in chapter 13 of the manga.
  • Lady and Knight: Akane and Jade, the knight assigned as her guardian and day-to-day helper.
  • Mundane Utility: Magic is widespread and used for many things, including identifying things.
  • Nature Spirit: Hiyori 'robbed' one early on, necessitating Akane to 'return' the goods via an offering ceremony/party. Later a childlike dryad, displaced by encroaching miasma, befriended Akane; it can grow edamame when fed soybeans.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: While the royals are seldom portrayed on-screen, Prince Cain (the second children of the royal family) does a lot of legwork, essentially serving as Hiyori's direct supervisor.
  • Single-Minded Twins: Princesses Sylphy and Selphie, Prince Cain's younger sisters.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: The Fairy Queen has several shades of this.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: It's eventually revealed that no time passes on Earth while the Takanashi sisters are in Fantasyland.
