To those who are lost and seek to find
a way to leave their past behind:
your search is done, so have no fear;
the door is always open here.

Hidden away behind a number of Doors all over the world, the enigmatic House opens to those who it deems worthy, granting access to the mysteries within.

The books tell the story of Alexis Stormbraid, as she is drawn into the depths of the House and those who seek its power.

House of Doors contains examples of:

  • City with No Name: The city the entire story takes place in is never named.
  • Die or Fly: Invoked (in the other order). The threat of death serves as a great incentive to learn quickly.
  • Magic and Powers: Keyholders and Evil Wizards have access to a wide array of magical abilities.
  • Magical Library: The centerpiece of the House is its Library, the home to the Spell Books of magical lore that separates Keyholders from normal people.
  • Offing the Offspring: Attempted. Kevin attempts to kill Alexis, his daughter, indirectly, by placing a bounty on her head.
  • Patricide: Alexis cancels the bounty on her by killing her dad, who placed it there.
  • Portal Door: The only way into the House of Doors is through one of its Doors, which function as portals, but only for those who are allowed.
  • Price on Their Head: Throughout the book, various attackers show up to try and claim the bounty on Alexis's head.
  • There Are No Therapists: Firmly averted by Alice.
  • Weirdness Censor: Those who aren't directly involved in magical events never remember them and information about it fails to spread.
