Fugitive State is a Cyberpunk dystopian novel by Mousy677. It follows a pair of common thieves, the cybernetically enhanced Briar Ashdown and her partner in crime Dean Clark, as they try to bring down the corrupt Government of New Europe.
Tropes in Fugitive State:
- Arcology: New London. The higher class live on the top level, while the lower classes (including La RĂ©sistance) live below.
- Big Brother Is Watching: Both in the "corrupt officials are constantly watching" and in the sense that Dean's visor being linked up to Briar's prosthetic eye allows him to keep tabs on her.
- Black Market: When he isn't hacking into Government computers and updating Briar's technology, Dean runs a "used cybernetics" stall in one of these.
- Brain/Computer Interface: Dean's Visor is a form of this. It's like an evolved Google Glass.
- City Noir: New London
- Corporate Warfare: The backstory to the elimination of all small retailers, which sets the plot in motion.
- Dueling Hackers: How Dean and Dylan meet.
- Evil Tower of Ominousness: New London, even the Upper Sector, seems to be filled with this.
- Everything Is Online
- Grey-and-Gray Morality
- Holographic Terminal: Dean's preferred form of Desktop.
- Non-Action Guy: Lucian.
- La RĂ©sistance: Dean and Briar end up joining this.
- Sinister Subway: Dean and Briar live in an abandoned Tube Station.
- Vice City: New London.
