Friends Like These is a memoir by Danny Wallace, detailing his mission to reconnect with twelve of his childhood friends.

In the run-up to his thirtieth birthday, Danny is alarmed by the idea of finally growing up and 'becoming a man', and wants to reconnect with his past as a way of coming to terms with this. He also receives a box of childhood memorabilia from his parents, containing, among other things, and address book of all his best friends from when he was growing up. He sets out to find and meet all of these friends over the course of the next few months.

Tropes include:

  • All Men Are Perverts : Averted - Danny feels like he's getting old when he tuts at a woman with a bare midriff
    Danny: It was cold, Ian!
  • Appeal to Obscurity : Micky Thomas, who apparently faded into obscurity after turning thirty.
  • Call-Back : One of the main types of joke in Danny Wallace's books; references can be found to earlier events in this book and his other books.
  • Mistaken for Gay : When one of Danny's old friends turn down a meeting, he realises too late that his email had seemed like he had a crush on that friend.
  • Running Gag : When Danny was at school he was very good at spelling, apparently.
