Literature / French Trafalgar British Waterloo

Go To

French Trafalgar, British Waterloo is an Alternate History on if the British were defeated by the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, which played out to be their Waterloo, therefore, herego, the title. Started in July 2009 by Tyler "Tbguy" 1992 on the Alternate History Wikia (the site where 1983: Doomsday first breathed life) under the horrible title of "L'empire de Napoleanic se lèvera!," the story is now a featured timeline, having been developed up to the present day, more or less.

Tropes included in this story:

  • Allohistorical Allusion: A whole boat load, including, but not restricted to a democratically elected General Adolf Hitler being exiled to Russia after it's occupied by Germany, and establishing himself as a decent painter, architect, and writes a book called (wait for it...) Mien Kampf.
  • Alternate History: It's on the Wikia!
  • Alternate History Wank: A minor form, but the author's home province of Manitoba, Canada, is turned into its own country and is the center of the world's film industry. Go figure.
  • Balkanize Me: Canada (now Quebec, Assiniboia and Alyseka), Great Britain (Scotland, Ireland and England), and America, which, at times, has included: the US; the British Oregon Territory; the Pacific Republic; a Confederate States, both as one and divided into North and South; Alyseka; Texas; and Mexican dominated Arizona.
  • Different World, Different Movies: quite a few, including not just movies, but video games as well
  • Divided States of America: And how!
  • The Empire: A France that controls OTL Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, large chunks of Germany and Spain?
    • And they used to have all of Western Germany and Northern Italy too, but they are independent now
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The National Socialist Movements in Germany, Britain, Argentina, Canada, Ontario, the Confederate States etc. etc. And, no, it's not THOSE ones
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: Played with, mostly so that the "bad guys" of the ATL WWII are National Socialists, though they are Exactly What It Says on the Tin this time: literal National Socialists! Though, instead of Nazi's, they are Natso's...
    • The psudeo-Fascist Ideology of France and her empire is "Sorelism": basically Fascism without the race hatred and the desire to conquer much, despite what it may look like...
  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: So many: Adolf Hitler an exiled politician turned painter/architect; Joseph Goebbels is an American Secretary of State; Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Skryabin (aka Molotov, both OTL and ATL) is a Prime Minister to the Czar's and later the first President of the Russian Republic; and Richard Nixon himself is an actor, killed on a poorly constructed movie set of Julius Caesar.
