Fatal (though its proper name is Fatal: A Novel of Corrupted Innocence) is the story of Senn, a nineteen year old boy with a Badass Longcoat and emo hair, his friend Seya, a boy with Angst about his weakness, and Purity, a timid sixteen year old girl who doesn't like fighting, but will become the Action Girl when necessary. The three are a member of the Society, an organization that sends soldiers known as "excavationists", to well.. excavate. On one night, Senn finds the local Artifact of Doom on a dig, but is unable to reach it. Upon everyone returning to the Society's base and going to sleep, Seya steals Disctypes (a mysterious technology in the shape of a disc that expands into a certain object on the owner's will) from the Society's infantry to go out and get the artifact on his own.Senn finds Seya there, finding out that the artifact is part of a set of three. From then on, a multitude of things happen, from Heroic Sacrifice, Kill the Cutie, and more. Read it here. The author, known as Riku, has used a forum he visits to place his work, although he is considering looking into a domain for it, as it's becoming more popular.
This book provides examples of:
- Adrenaline Makeover: Happened to Purity before the events of the novel.
- Always Save the Girl: A subverted case: After Purity dies, Senn sets out not knowing where to go or what to do, quitting the Society altogether. Once he learns Seya is threatening the world with destruction, he doesn't go to stop the world from being destroyed, just to avenge Purity.
- Artifact of Doom The three elemental relics appear to be this, but in Conception it is revealed that each of them empower different things of a human which is why Seya went batshit insane.
- Author Appeal: A Q/A reveals that Riku has a coat fetish. Oh, and coincidentally, the Society members have Badass Long Furcoats.
- Badass Longcoat: Senn, Purity, Leon, and Colette: it's standard uniform for the Society. (although Seya is somehow immune to this dress code.)
- Badass Normal: Basically in the series has any sort of magic except Seya's god powers after his Face–Heel Turn, so pretty much everyone. Senn and Leon definitely qualify.
- The Centerpiece Spectacular: Egregiously. If it tells you anything, there are ten chapters in Act 1, twenty five in Act 2, and about eight in Act 3.
- Grand Theft Me: Chapter 21, full stop. Seya and Shion kidnap Laken (again) and Seya plans to use his body to attain the power to harness the planet's strength.
- Racist Grandma: The prequel, Conception, has revealed that Nikolai has one of these, to Kei's dismay.
