Dragon Masters is a series of books written by Tracey West. The series features a selected group of eight-year-old kids who each have a dragon: Drake with his earth dragon Worm, Bo with his water dragon Shu, Ana with her sun dragon Kepri, and Rori with her fire dragon Vulcan. They travel to different parts of the world on adventures, sometimes to save the world.

This series provides examples of:

  • Acid Attack: The Poison Dragon can spit streams of acid from its mouths.
  • Blow You Away: The wind dragon can expel strong gusts of wind from its mouth.
  • Breath Weapon: Most dragons have a breath weapon that corresponds with their Elemental Powers. Vulcan can breathe out fire, Shu can breathe out water, Kepri can breathe out sunlight, and so on.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Stella orders her star dragon Nova to attack this way. Some of the different attacks include Star Beams, Star Dust, Star Whip, and Super Shine.
  • Casting a Shadow: The shadow dragon can create thick clouds of darkness.
  • Dispel Magic: Shu can breathe out a mist that can clear the effects of dark magic on others, such as Mind Control.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Spanish version:
    • Worm is renamed as Lombriz ("Worm" in Spanish).
    • Vulcan is renamed as Volcán ("Volcano" in Spanish).
  • Elemental Dragon: Each dragon is associated with a certain element, such as earth, fire, water, light, and many, many more.
  • Feathered Dragons: Kepri has white feathered wings to tie into her element of light and complement her angelic appearance.
  • Fiery Redhead: Rori is redheaded, quite the feisty girl, and even has a fire dragon to match.
  • Glowing Eyes:
    • Worm's eyes glow bright green when using his Mind over Matter powers. Occasionally his entire body glows, but mainly his eyes.
    • Anyone under mind control because of evil magic has glowing red eyes.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Kepri is a white dragon with golden accents. Combined with her feathered wings and light element, Kepri has quite the angelic appearance.
  • Green Thumb: The spring dragon has the power to rapidly grow plant life in the surrounding area.
  • An Ice Person: The ice dragon can breathe freezing blasts of frost from its mouth.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Each book title follows one of these two structures:
    • Descriptive Noun Of The X Dragon (Rise Of The Earth Dragon, Secret Of The Water Dragon, Power Of The Fire Dragon, etc).
    • Verb ending in -ing The X Dragon (Saving The Sun Dragon, Waking The Rainbow Dragon, Guarding The Invisible Dragons, etc).
  • Invisibility: Invisible dragons can turn invisible at will.
  • Land, Sea, Sky: The Lava, Sea, and Wind dragons are included in the same story arc, and represent the land, sea, and sky.
  • Light 'em Up: Kepri the sun dragon can emit bright sunlight from her mouth.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Dragons or people who are under the control of Maldred, an evil wizard, have glowing red eyes.
  • Make Some Noise: The Sound Dragon can unleash soundwaves to attack. It can also transform its body into a soundwave to phase through solid objects.
  • Making a Splash: Shu the water dragon can expel jets of water from her mouth.
  • Male Sun, Female Moon: Inverted. Kepri is a female sun dragon and Wati is a male moon dragon.
  • Mind over Matter: Worm has the power to lift objects using his mind.
  • Night and Day Duo: Sun and moon dragons are always born together as twins. They are an inseparable pair and even hae the ability to heal the other.
  • No-Sell: The silver dragon can use its reflective wings to easily redirect attacks.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Dragons come in a wide variety in this series. Vulcan is a typical western dragon with four legs and wings, while Shu is an eastern dragon with no wings but flies using magic. Kepri is a FeatheredDragon with a distinct gecko or snake-like head. Worm is snakelike with tiny wings.
  • Palette Swap: Kepri and Wati look identical to each other, except that the former has white scales while the latter has black scales. Both share the same golden accents, though. Justified as Kepri and Wati are twin dragons and therefore would look alike.
  • Playing with Fire: Vulcan the fire dragon can breathe fire.
  • Poisonous Person: The poison dragon can spit foul acid that can melt through stone and make people sick if hit. It can also produce different types of poison, such as one that temporarily stuns the target.
  • Power Glows: This applies to just about every dragon in the series. Each dragon has a different glow color when they use their powers. For example, Worm the earth dragon glows green when he uses his powers, while Neru the thunder dragon glows purple.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Eko was Griffith's first Dragon Master, but she eventually decided to flee with her thunder dragon Neru. The castle saw it as Eko stealing their only dragon at the time, but Neru went with Eko willingly. They "capture" dragons to free them from human capitivty.
  • Shock and Awe: The lightning dragon has the ability to release discharges of electricity.
  • Solar and Lunar: Every sun dragon is born with a moon dragon twin. The twins share a close bond with each other at birth, and have the power to heal the other.
  • Telepathy: Each Dragon Master wears a special rock called the Dragon Stone. Once they are bonded with their dragon enough, they'll be able to communicate with their dragon through their minds with the Dragon Stone.
  • Teleportation: Worm can teleport himself as well as anyone else who is touching him. Drake and his friends use this ability to travel to distant lands quickly.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The gold dragon can shapeshift into different animals at will.
  • Wings Do Nothing: Worm the earth dragon has tiny wings that can't fly. However, he can teleport with the power of his mind, which is his main form of transportation (along with the rest of the squad in literally every single book expect for the first).
