"Doors" is a creepypasta short story posted on January 3rd 2010 by aCJohnson.

It's about an adopted brother settling into life with his new family, which consists of mom Janice, dad Richard, and his older sister, Emily. Things are going well for the adopted boy as he goes through a typical day. That is, until a murderer breaks in and attacks the boy's family.

This story provides examples of:

  • The All-Concealing "I": Turns out that the narrator is a dog. There are actually little nods and hints to this scattered throughout the story, which gives it a Rewatch Bonus.
  • Ambiguous Situation: To an extent; we know that Emily is kidnapped, but no one knows what her ultimate fate is.
  • Big Bad: The murderer who breaks in at the end of the story is the main antagonist, who murders the narrator's adoptive parents and kidnaps Emily.
  • Brother–Sister Team: The narrator and his sister. They shared a friendly bond, he vows that the murderer musn't take Emily away, and when she is taken away, he wants to chase after them in hopes of rescuing Emily, but he can't open doors because he is a dog.
  • Canine Companion: The narrator is a dog who loved spending time with Emily.
  • Don't Split Us Up: The narrator stresses that the murderer not take Emily, who is his sister.
    He mustn't take her. Not her.
  • Downer Ending: The murderer succeeds in killing the narrator's parents and kidnapping Emily to do God knows what to her, the narrator fails to save them because he's a dog and can neither speak nor open doors. The end.
  • The Ending Changes Everything: The revelation that the narrator is a dog changes the entire perspective of the story.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: The narrator senses the murderer before he breaks in, catching a glimpse of him and hearing his footsteps.
  • Foreshadowing: The numerous little hints scattered throughout the story that imply that the narrator is actually a dog.
  • From Bad to Worse: After the murderer kills the narrator's parents, he expects the murderer to kill Emily next. He doesn't, but she gets kidnapped instead, leaving him with nobody.
  • Hell Is That Noise: At first, the narrator hears subtle noises just outside the house but doesn’t make too much of a big deal out of it. It's only when he hears a loud crash that he becomes terrified, and for good reason, as that's the murderer breaking in.
  • Heroic Dog: The narrator tries to save Emily and chase after the murderer; however he can't open doors.
  • Mysterious Animal Senses: The narrator has enhanced sight, smelling and hearing because he is a dog.
  • Pet the Dog: Quite literally happens right before the murderer leaves, though him petting the narrator and saying "Good boy" was most definitely not an act of kindness.
  • Raised by Humans: The narrator doesn't seem like one at first until it's revealed that he is a dog, meaning that his adoptive parents and sister were actually a family who took him in as their pet.
  • Tomato Surprise: At the end of the story, it's revealed that the narrator is a dog. The narrator obviously knows about this, but this isn't expicility revealed to us until the last paragraph.
  • Translation Convention: The narrator communicates in barks but it's presented as English.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The murderer forcefully drags Emily away from her home. He doesn't kill her, but we don't know what occurs once she's kidnapped.
