Date A live Encore is basically a series of short stories about dates Shido Itsuka takes with the Spirits.

This work contains:

  • Color Failure: Shido whites out in a scene adapted into episode 13 of the anime after Origami does exactly what he asks her to do: stand on all four like a dog and act like one, even taking Shido's belt off to use it as a collar.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Yamai twins briefly show up in the OVA, playing Breakout in the arcade. Amusingly enough, both are wearing their Astral Dresses.
  • Extreme Doormat: In the main series, Origami was already willing to tolerate anything Shido might say or do if it means gaining his approval. The a secene adapted into the first OVA takes this Up to Eleven, where all of Ratatoskr's efforts to help Shido make her dislike him fail.
  • Hero Insurance During a scene adapted into the OVA, Tohka destroys several arcade machines. Each time she does, some men show up and replace said destroyed machines with brand new ones.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: That Came Out Wrong: In a scene adapted into an OVA, Tohka tells her classmates about the wonderful date Shido took her out on. At first they think it's sweet, until she mentions things such as hitting and being in ecstasy, making it sound like they had sex. The naked picture she took and gave him that he accidentally loses in the class only reinforces their suspicions. He tries to tell them they were only at an arcade, but they won't let him explain, forcing him to run out of the classroom.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: In the OVA, Origami obeys Shido's orders to put on a School Swimsuit with dog ears and tail, then act like a dog. In public.
  • That Came Out Wrong: In the OVA, Tohka tells her classmates about the wonderful date Shido took her out on.
  • Unusual Euphemism: In scene adapted into the OVA, one of Shido's attempts to make himself look unpleasant enough for Origami to dump him is claiming to be a lolicon, telling her that his "Sandalphon" goes out of control as he ogles elementary school girls.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Amazingly, Played for Laughs! In the side story of Encore 2, Ellen's Greatest Day, Westcott actually gives Ellen a day-off of her job as secretery since he wanted her to be in her best mood in case if the Spirits appear again. Later, Westcott is seen alone in his office reading documents while thinking he should have went together with Ellen.
  • Wingding Eyes: Miku sports these in Volume 2 when she saw Tohka in swimsuit during the Tennou Festival, coupled with Perverted Drooling.
