Darkness Falls is the first novel in the Blackest Night trilogy. A supernatural action horror, it details the battle between the Family of Blood and the Elder vampires, as well as the rise of the Black Tyrant.
Darkness Falls contains examples of:
- Action Girl: Almost every woman in the novel. The men may be monsters, but the women are just as badass and capable of kicking ass.
- Boom, Headshot!: Whenever he has a crossbow, Conrad doles out headshots like they're going out of style.
- Cain and Abel: This is exactly the trope concerning the Crane siblings. Judas is the stoic, emotionless, softer spoken older brother - who can still be extremely vicious - while Marcus is the belligerent, war loving and snarky younger brother. It can also stretch to their sister Violet, who is a woman somewhere between Judas’s empty ice and Marcus's emotional fire.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Several are dished out over the course of the book, with almost every person being on the receiving end at one point or another.
- The Dreaded: The Black Tyrant. The moment it is indicated that the Tyrant has arrived, every one of the fighting vampires flees for their life.
- Extreme Omnisexual: It is noted that while he is married to Alessa, Conrad will flirt and sleep with any creature with a pulse.
- The Stoic: Judas. No matter what happens, he has all the emotion of a marble statue.
