Ever gone onto the internet and seen pictures of [Moe Anthropomorphism characters] who are humanoid forms of non-living objects, such as food or TV channels? You can find plenty based off of roller coasters (especially the ones at [Alton Towers], for some reason) if you know where to look. Wait, what do you mean, “humanized roller coasters are real”?

Coaster Spirits is the story of Lauren Young, a mostly normal teenage girl who recently moved from California to Ohio, and how she gets caught up in an adventure that is certainly NOT normal. After a strange dream and an even stranger sight in the woods, she meets Misty, a girl who has supernatural powers and calls herself and her friends Coaster Spirits; entities who greatly resemble humans and have some sort of connection to amusement park rides. Turns out that something has given Lauren the power to break [The Masquerade] that hides these spirits from humanity. From then on, she finds herself in the middle of a series of events that could change the world... but the ride might not be completely pleasant.

The story is being written by a [DeviantArt] user named Wicker Dan and can be found here: https://www.deviantart.com/wickerdan/gallery/70153041/coaster-spirits

Coaster Spirits includes examples of:

  • Abandoned Area: The lumber mill from chapter one. The story features a ride with scenery that replicates the mill.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The first chapter shows a trio of teenagers exploring an abandoned lumber mill... then changes to said teenagers on a roller coaster themed to an abandoned lumber mill.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The first chapter is partially in 1st person, from Lauren’s perspective. The rest of the story is in 3rd person, and the perspective occasionally moves away from Lauren.
  • Masquerade: A force known as The Cloak acts as this for coaster spirits by preventing humans from sensing them while making the spirits intangible to the world around them.
  • Ominous Fog: The forests in the first and second chapters have this.
