Art doesn't know what to do when a new pet is brought into the house.
Art the Gecko Makes a Friend is a short children's picture book published by Margaret Snyder. When Art's master, Brett, brings home a second pet, Art experiences some jealousy.
Like its sister book, Who's Afraid of Boomer?, this one comes with a toy of The Protagonist, a small gecko filled with sand.
This book provides examples of:
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Art is yellow with orange, purple, and green splotches, which doesn't match any particular gecko in real life.
- Attention Whore: Art is so used to getting the attention he gets scared of getting replaced when a new pet shows up.
- Character Title: Art the gecko.
- Disappeared Dad: Mr. Johnson is never mentioned or even seen in the book.
- First-Name Basis: Art's full name, Art Gecko, is used only once by Brett.
- Indy Escape: Art does this, though instead of a boulder it's dust.
- Lovable Lizard: Art; who is a gecko, is cute and lovable and clearly adores Brett.
- Species Surname: Art Gecko; he is a Gecko.
- Sphere Eyes: Art is usually portrayed as having oval shaped eyes, though on the cover they're perfect circles. This is perhaps justified though since geckos don't have eyelids, which would obscure the rest of the eye.
- Wall Crawl: Unsurprisingly Art the Gecko can do this and does so to escape his habitat.
- White Bunny: Flop is a white rabbit.
