Just For Fun / The Grand List of TV Tropes Wiki Laws

Go To

The Grand List of TV Tropes Wiki Laws is a blatant spoof of The Grand List of Forum and Community Laws which is, in itself, a blatant spoof of The Grand List of Console Role Playing Game Clichés. It attempts to catalog and explain some of the more notable trends on this wiki and it's forums such as the behavior of its users, the types of threads (both trope related and not), and the ways it has ruined your life. Just for Fun, of course!

Just to be clear, these aren't TV Tropes' actual rules. The actual rules are exceedingly simple: Fun will be had. Boorishness and Dickery will not be tolerated. Mutual respect among the posters is expected. Vandalism of the wiki will get you banned tout suite.

The Grand List of TV Tropes Wiki Laws

  • The Life Ruination Rule: All entries and tropes related to TV Tropes or that even mention TV Tropes in passing will bring up how TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life. That includes this one.
  • The Discussion Page Rule of No Discussion Page: On any trope or work page with a discussion page (ie. all of them) the page will never ever be used, even if the page specifically mentions you should check with the discussion page before editing.
    • Corollary: If the discussion page has any posts on it they will be from at least 7 years ago and will either not have any replies or consist of a half finished conversation.
  • Game of Avatars Law: On the forum games subforum, half or more than half of the first page of the subforum will always consist of games relating to avatars or avatar galleries.
  • Law of Universal Egregiousness: "Egregious" will be used sincerely.
  • Troperifficity of Pony Law:
  • First Pigsty Law: The largest of hams will be written in all-caps and bold type, e.g. BRIAN BLESSED.
  • Second Pigsty Law: The larger a ham someone is, the more likely they are to have a Self-Demonstrating Article, e.g. again BRIAN BLESSED.

Rules for adding new entries:

  • New entries can be posted next to those they directly relate to, otherwise at the bottom. There are no fixed categories. (Yet.)
  • The rules don't have to be true, they just have to sound like they are, to the point where a lot of people agree with you. You're welcome to pull statistics out of nowhere if they sound right.
  • Try to keep the "rant" factor down. Don't post new entries just to vent about something that happened to you or to bash people. If you must, then disguise that fact with an intelligent and cleverly-worded entry.
  • Giving your entry a name is optional. Look at the RPG cliche list or trope naming conventions for inspiration. If you really like a law that you yourself made up, you can name it after yourself.
  • If you want to remove an entry, first go to the discussion page and see if anyone else disagrees with the entry.
  • Above all, have fun!
