TV Tropes: The Website: The MMORPG is an MMORPG that's focused on three things.
- Rule of Cool
- Rule of Funny
- and including as many tropes in one game as possible.
It launched in April 2004 and has subsequently launched multiple free expansions and updates, referred to as seasons. Each season contains it's own story arc with certain items, NPCs, and events only accessible during said story arc. The game also goes to great lengths to explain away out of universe events in game (for example, a Season came out after the game shut down temporarily, explaining what happened in the game during that event.)note
This show provides examples of:
- A Good Name for a Rock Band: There is a rock band in the game quite literally named this. Also, several options for character dialog are this.
- Can't Argue with Elves: The High Elves are absolutely insufferable. They believe themselves to be a master race, denouncing all other races as inferior. They believe that other Elf subspecies are unworthy of calling themselves Elves. The Space Elves are just as insufferable if not more so.
- Christmas Elves: A subspecies of Elf.
- Crystal Dragon Jesus: A boss and later, a friend.
- Fantasy Counterpart Culture: So many you can't swing a hammer without hitting one. Every culture in the world seems to have a counterpart here. And more just keep coming.
- Negative Space Wedgie: quite a few of these can be encountered in the Space Race Season. Most of them were kept later.
- Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Many. Most of them are hilarious parodies. Dodging copyright has never been so fun.
- Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: Averted. The physical classes are just as quadratic as the magic ones. At least one of them is more quadratic.
- Level Ate: One planet and one pocket dimension.
- Our Gnomes Are Weirder: There are two subspecies of Gnome, Classic Fantasy Gnomes and Garden Gnomes.
- Permanently Missable Content: Many, considering that each update comes with a limited time only story that has it's own items, NPCs, and events.
- Random Encounters: Quite a few in certain vehicle based areas (such as space).
- Space Elves: One subspecies of Elf.
- Squishy Wizard: It is quite possible to play as one of these. It's also possible to avert this entirely.
