Just For Fun / Sarah Ellinson

Go To

A rising voice in the genre of teen Paranormal Romance, she is currently at work on an as-yet-untitled book about a high school girl who falls in love with a boy who turns out to be an avatar of none other than Cthulhu. She also credits her five children with a good deal of the book, and hopes it will make its mark as "better than The Twilight Saga."note

Ellinsen and her work provide examples of:

  • Arc Number: Arc Letter: Every chapter title is one word that begins with "C."
  • Author Appeal: She calls The Phantom of the Opera her favorite book and references it several times. Though some suspect she hasn't actually read the book, and has only seen the musical.
  • Big Applesauce: She's taken some heat for her inaccurate portrayal of New York City, which some residents describe as seeming like it was based on Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
  • Church of Happyology: A "Reform Anaprotestant," an obscure branch of Christianity that she hopes to bring more attention to.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Uncle Neal is very popular thanks to his extensive backstory which we only get the barest hints of.
  • Noodle Incident: Half of Uncle Neal's life. Also, the villain is repeatedly described as a "woman scorned," but we never actually learn what happened.
  • One-Steve Limit: A Real Life aversion as her two sons are both named Matt, per Anaprotestant tradition. She calls them Matt A and Matt B.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Cthulhu becomes human due to a prophecy that the protagonist will ruin his plan to destroy the world. Turns out, due to that very investigation he falls in love with her, and doesn't want to destroy the world anymore.
