Welcome, good sirs, to TV Tropes!
Come on in, we'll show you the ropes!

What is this about?
This wiki is, without a doubt,
a catalog of the tricks of the trade
for writing fiction and giving of aid.
We dip into the cauldron of story,
whistle up a hearty spoonful without worry
and splosh it down right in front
for you to eat and wash down with a grunt.

Tropes are conventions and devices
that a writer can rely on without rising prices
as they are present in the audience's expectations.
On the whole, tropes are not clichéd complications.
The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite".
In other words, dull, the audience's blight.
We are not looking for entries that bore.
We are here to recognize tropes and much more
play with them, too, not to make fun
of everything interesting under the sun.

The wiki is called "TV Tropes"
because that is where we started, before outreaching scopes.
Over the course of a few years, this encyclopedia
has crept out to include all types of other media.
Tropes transcend television.
They exist in real life, as we will be quick to envision.
Since art does its best to life reflect,
tropes are likely to show up everywhere with respect.

We are not a stuffy encyclopedic wiki spectacular.
We're buttloads more informal (we use the vernacular!).
There Is No Such Thing as Notability, and no citations needed.
If your entry doesn't grow by magic, consider warnings heeded.
It will just wither and die, a trope still theoretical.
But it will still be available through the index (all alphabetical).
We encourage breezy language and original thought
(and won't mind to the occasional snark, so don't get distraught).

Click in the menu on "Troperville"
on the upper left of any page if you will
to find the places where tropers can gather
and write what they want and blather and blather.

Go on, have fun. We'll give you some credit.
We'll be along soon, we just have to click "Edit."
