These mods are practically required for every installation of Oblivion, to the point that we believe that Bethesda should simply package these mods along with new copies of the game.

Character Creation
Alternative Beginnings (by Arthmoor)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- The precursor to the immensely popular Skyrim mod Live Another Life. This mod allows you to quickly create characters and choosing where to start your game, instead of having to go through the tutorial mission every time. You can for example start as a member of one of the local guilds, be a wanted criminal, and even already own one of the houses.

Alternate Start Arrive By Ship (by Robert_evrae)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- An alternative to the above mod. This mod also allows you to bypass the tutorial dungeon, by having your character arrive by ship. This mod is not as versatile in starting locations as Alternative Beginnings, but does allow more choice in starting inventory. If you, for example, choose to be a retired Imperial Legion soldier, you'll get a full set of Imperial Armor at the start.

Magic
Supreme Magicka (by Strategy Master)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- A Magic overhaul that makes magic in Oblivion a more fun and versatile experience by rebalancing it. Adds many new interesting magic effects, such as levitation, teleportation (both short an long range) and the ability to summon multiple creatures at the same time.

Midas Magic, Spells of Aurum (by xilver)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- This mod adds many new interesting scripted spells, such as summoning a meteorite from the skies, new kinds of bound weapons, multiple forms of flight and summoning a Dwemer Centurion that's able to transform into a bike the player can mount. The fun thing about this mod is that the player has to work for these spells as they can only gain them by trading in certain items, some of which can only be found in newly created worlds. So this mod will certainly give you hours of extra playtime.

Gameplay
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (originally made by Oscuro, now in hands of Team Alpha)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- This mod completely overhauls the core gameplay of Oblivion, making it more challenging, yet also more rewarding at the same time. Here are a few examples of what it does:
- The gameworld now no longer levels with the player. Instead, many of the encounters are based on how far you are from the cities. The farther you go, the more dangerous things will be. There are also many enemies with a static level, meaning you'd have to train your character in order to defeat them.
- It completely rebalances the player character, buffing many skills that were useless in vanilla Oblivion and nerfing many that could be easily exploited.
- Many new evil factions have been included, most of which are more challenging versions of existing factions, while some of these are completely original. Almost all of these new factions are involved in a questline involving a powerful suit of armor.

OOO Shivering Isles (ZUTheSkunk and Kobal)
- Signed by Dark_Lord_
- This mod basically does what OOO does to the main game. It makes the whole Shivering Isles experience more challenging, but also adds more new content to also reward the player for exploring.
