Disney has many note skeletons in its vault; after Disney's Anne Frank and Aladdin IV: Jafar May Need Glasses, this is easily their most controversial and notorious animated feature.note
The years following Walt's death were especially hard on the studio. Following the success of Fritz the Cat and the boom in the adult film industry following the sexual revolution of the 1960s. Disney tried to go to a place they had never been before by making a sequel (their first of many) to one of the classic films the Disney Animated Canon, Bambi.
The result was Bambi Goes Crazy Ape Bonkers With His Drill and Sex. note The film, Disney's attempt to to break from their family-friendly image, is all but forgotten by modern audiences. The plot (so to speak) involves Bambi becoming bored after settling down with Faline and having fawns of his own, then going on a sex fueled rampage orgy with various animals he encounters to help improve his relationship with Faline.
Compare with Bambi's short from a few years earlier, Bambi Meets Godzillanote .
This film provides examples of:
- Everybody Has Lots of Sex: Everyone, even Friend Owl, gets laid!
- Follow the Leader: This was pretty much created to cash in on Fritz the Cat.
- Never Live It Down: Bambi could never forgive himself for making this movie, even after moving to the United Kingdom where he become the mascot of Babycham and later the host of the ITV game show University Challenge.
- Out with a Bang: Friend Owl eats a couple of rabbits after having sex with them.
- Old Shame: Bambi himself regretted making this film.
- Signature Scene: Many have said that the "Virgin Otter" scene is to this movie what the death of Bambi's mother in the first movie is.
