In a twist, the candidate who was attacked gets to pass the exam while his partner fails for betraying his friend. Then with Liam and Ouida's exam, Liam writes Ouida's name and passes through the Door of the Vanquished. Ouida then chases after him, insisting that he doesn't want to pass the exam without Liam. Both pass as a result of their devotion to each other.
