"What is grief... if not love persevering?"

WandaVision finally grants the eponymous duo the chance to be a normal couple and it's cathartic to see them being happy and loving and carefree for the first time since Civil War.

    In general
  • A close observer will notice that unlike everyone else in the Hex, Vision is never completely under Wanda’s control. It’s a sign of how much she loves him. She could've easily made Vision look like a human full time, or gotten rid of his robot personality entirely to help them fit in, but instead Wanda encourages him to be himself as much as possible (like the scene where she asks him to meet his kids in his real form). She could also mind wipe Vision every time he gets suspicious, but she never does, even though it’s the obvious solution. When she can’t avoid his suspicions anymore, and they argue and he vents, instead of doing the obvious and erasing his memory, Wanda tries to talk her way out of it. In fact, you can see her almost break her masquerade and just tell him the truth before Fake Pietro shows up and distracts them both. In the Halloween episode, Vision practically tells her point blank that he’s going to patrol the town to see what’s really going on (playing into the storyline she's running just to have his own way), and it clearly irritates her but she lets him do it. So many issues could've been avoided if Wanda controlled Vision the way she controls everyone else, but she loves him too much to do that.
  • The very last shot of the revamped Marvel Studios intro is a shot from Black Panther (2018) of T'Challa dispersing the attacking Border Tribesmen, a heartwarming nod to the late Chadwick Boseman as this is the first Marvel Studios property released after his passing.
  • While the circumstances heavily imply more troubling matters going on, Wanda and Vision completely love each other, and their recreation of classic sitcoms is adorable.

Episode 1: Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience
  • Throughout the events of the entire episode, we're shown that Wanda and Vision genuinely love and want what's best for each other. Their attitude towards each other would be on the edge of Sickening Sweethearts. Still, given how much has happened in their previous lives, it's honestly nice to see the two of them support one another in the closest thing they can get to a normal life.
  • It's a brief moment, but Norm making sure that the music he's playing isn't bothering Vision is rather sweet.
  • Vision risking revealing his Game-Breaker powerset by saving Mr. Hart from choking - it may be the first time we've seen him saving someone other than Wanda, cementing him as an Avengers-worthy superhero. You know Tony Stark would be proud.
  • After Wanda expresses regret over the couple never having formally married, saying, "We don't even have wedding rings," Vision suggests she conjure some up. She does, and they sweetly exchange "I dos" before kissing each other to end the "episode."

Episode 2: Don't Touch That Dial
  • When Vision steps off the stage of the talent show after attempting to perform his magic act with gum clogging his system (the episode's take on Drunk on Milk), he gets quite upset and distraught that he's let Wanda down by ruining the act and forcing her to improvise most of the show. It goes to show that, much like the sitcom men he's imitating in the series, despite his bumbling antics, he wants the best for Wanda and their relationship.
    • And although her husband may have made a fool of himself on the talent show stage, Wanda makes it known that she's just happy that Vision showed up and did his best with what he had.
  • The end of the episode which has color rush in from nowhere. It makes it look like they're on a new path.

    Episode 3: Now in Color
  • While also having some funny moments, the episode's intro shows Wanda and Vision taking the necessary steps to prepare for their child, including looking for baby outfits, building a crib and swing set, and reading up on pregnancy to prepare for going through the motions. The two of them also get to spend some sweet quality time together eating ice cream, dancing, and using the aforementioned swing set. Heck, even the theme song has some feel-good elements to it.
Lyrics: Some sudden surprises come in all shapes and sizes... But it's rainbows and sun, it's you and it's meee... Together one plus one is family!
  • Despite having little to no medical experience, Geraldine drops everything to help Wanda give birth to her child when no one else is available to do so.
  • When Wanda's water breaks and Dr. Nielsen is about to leave for vacation, Vision doesn't hesitate to use his Super-Speed to get to him and bring him to their house. Considering how much the two have worked to make sure nobody in Westview knows their secret, it goes to show just how important Vision considers the birth of his children, even if he doesn't understand how it's happening so quickly.
  • Vision is absent when Tommy is born and is thrilled to meet him. Wanda insists that he does so with his real face, even though Geraldine and the doctor are over in the open kitchen. As he greets him, Vision names him Tommy like Wanda wanted, even though he originally wanted to name him Billy. It proves that Vision definitely puts Wanda's interests before his own.
  • When Wanda suddenly starts feeling the second child on her way, she shouts out "BILLY!" in an exuberant tone. Bear in mind that nobody knows if the next baby will be a boy or a girl, but Wanda clearly wants it to be a boy so Vision still gets his baby name of choice. D'aww.
  • While the circumstances of the reveal are very sad, it's still heartwarming that despite not mentioning him since his death, Wanda still thinks about her brother Pietro, showing that he was never forgotten.
Monica Rambeau: Twins! I can't believe it.
Wanda Maximoff: ...I'm a twin. I had a brother. [smiles, continues in her Sokovian accent] His name was Pietro.
    • In turn, Wanda quietly sings her sons a Sokovian lullaby, implicitly one her parents used to sing for her and her brother.
      I waited for you
      And this day has come
My heart became a home full of light
      Full of light
  • Vision showing concern for the oddities surrounding the town and the behavior of his neighbors indicates that while Wanda might see the citizens of Westview as living props for her sitcom reenactments, Vision sees them as more than that, and wants to help them. It's also telling that he immediately asks Wanda where Geraldine went after she "leaves" Westview, even though the information he just unearthed about her should put him on edge instead.

Episode 4: We Interrupt This Program
  • While it's heartbreaking to learn Maria Rambeau succumbed to cancer during the five-year timeskip we also learn she made arrangements with S.W.O.R.D. to prepare in case people came back. Specifically, she believed her daughter, Monica, would return from being Blipped. She may not have lived to see it to completion, but she was ultimately right about her daughter surviving.
    • There is also hope that Carol was back on Earth during this time, and the two friends got to see each other one last time.
    • In addition, Monica's first thought, post-Snap, is a memory of Carol calling her "Lieutenant Trouble", showing how important Carol still is to Monica. The fact that Monica is now a space-traveling captain herself was likely her following in Carol's and her mother's footsteps.
    • Carol (and the Skrulls) also help Monica retain her optimism in the uncertain world she's come back to.
Tyler Hayward: Space is now full of unexpected threats.
Monica Rambeau: Always was full of threats. And allies.
      • Monica could also be referencing how half the allies in the battle against Thanos were from space.
    • A closer look at the S.W.O.R.D. drone shows it sports the colors of Captain Marvel, possibly as a tribute to Maria's closest friend. Doubly heartwarming when you remember that Monica was the one who picked the colors.
  • In spite of not understanding much of anything that's happening in Westview, Jimmy and Darcy can't help being genuinely touched by seeing Wanda living happily with Vision.
  • Darcy Lewis, the former political science major, was apparently inspired enough by her previous experiences to become a doctor of astrophysics, well-regarded enough to get tapped by S.W.O.R.D. to help with the Westview anomaly.
  • Hayward mentions in passing that the world has changed a lot since Monica went up to space. That's right: Monica, the little girl who once told Nick Fury that she would go up to space one day, got to see her dream come true. Good on you, Monica.
  • Jimmy's been practicing that card trick Scott impressed him with. Judging by that little smile, Monica thought it was endearing. Or incredibly dorky.

Episode 5: On a Very Special Episode...
  • When Director Hayward is determined to take out Wanda and calls her a terrorist, Jimmy, Darcy, and Monica (even after Wanda violently forced her out of Westview!) all defend her and give her the benefit of the doubt.
    • Jimmy even calls out Hayward for oversimplifying Wanda’s history and notes that she did become an Avenger and a genuine hero. It's probably the nicest compliment Wanda has ever received from someone outside the Avengers.
  • Wanda doesn't actually hurt any of the S.W.O.R.D. agents, not even Hayward for trying to kill her and putting her sons in danger. This acts as a reminder that she is still a hero and can undo all the damage she has done.
  • Pietro's return is a welcome sight ever since his tragic death in Age of Ultron, though the sight of Evan Peters portraying him might overwhelm the senses.
  • Just as Wanda and Vision start to worry about the empty cribs, they hear a tiny voice say, "Mommy? Daddy?" They turn to see the twins, now aged up to 5-year-olds, standing at the bottom of the stairs. Even though the aging-up itself is jarring and a little creepy, the cuteness of the twins, the fact that they are not in danger, and the fact that these were their first words, actually make this a rather sweet moment.
  • The wholesome family pictures and moments during the theme song.
  • Darcy revealing she's a fan of Monica's when they meet.
  • In a Brick Joke from Episode 4, Jimmy got Darcy her coffee.
  • Monica tries to connect to Wanda. She points out that Wanda – a telepath – allowed Monica – a S.W.O.R.D. agent – to help deliver Tommy, which means that, on some level, Wanda must know that Monica is an ally. It is heartwarming in direct contrast to Hayward, who has been trying to paint Wanda as nothing more than a dangerous monster who needs to be eliminated.
    • She also believes Wanda kept her from serious harm when ejecting her from Westview, as she should not have emerged relatively unscathed after smashing through several houses, fences, and the barrier itself.
    • Notably, when Wanda mind controls the agents, she redirects their aim exclusively at Hayward, leaving Monica alone, which implies that her reasoning worked. Justified as Monica always treated Wanda like a person with feelings and tried to reason with her, enough to convince Wanda that she had nothing to do with Hayward's Project CATARACT, while Hayward treated her as a monster, and tried to kill her to cover his own abuses of power.
  • When Vision frees Abilash from the Norm persona Wanda forced upon him via the Hex, he immediately tries to comfort him and promises that he will do everything to free him from what's happening. Even if Vision doesn't even know the guy's real name, it's heartwarming to know that Vision genuinely cares about his (fake) coworker, and wants to rescue him from a horrible fate.
  • While Wanda can control Vision's body/actions, it's mentioned that she can't (or at least doesn't) control what he thinks and feels the way she does everybody else, and so couldn't have made him love her. Which leads to some fridge heartwarming; it's revealed that this Vision was spontaneously brought into existence when Wanda created the Hex, and he doesn't remember his previous life... which means he's largely constructed from Wanda's happy memories of her time with the original Vision.
    • During their argument, as angry as Vision is, he also seems genuinely concerned for his wife, wanting to believe that she wouldn't willingly take an entire town hostage. Right before the knock on their door, he seemed to be really getting through to her.
    • When she reaches for him to try and calm him down, he reaches back.
  • As horrible as the argument is, it does show how much Vision cares about other people's wellbeing. He specifically cites Norm's family. It shows that this false life cannot be enough for him when others are suffering.

    Episode 6: All-New Halloween Spooktacular!
  • Despite Vision obviously being displeased towards Wanda for trying to force him into conformity, he still does love her. He indulges her by making up a very convincing in-universe reason for why he can't come trick-or-treating and gives her a small, sweet peck on the cheek before he leaves. And when he shifts from his Halloween costume into his old appearance as an Avenger, he's still wearing his wedding ring.
  • Even though Wanda implied in the previous episode that she could control Vision if she wanted (and episode 3 showed that she could "rewind" the action if he began to get suspicious), she doesn't even try to stop Vision from leaving, despite her obvious displeasure with him for not sticking to the script. And once he's gone, she doesn't try to check on his whereabouts. Whatever ethically-dubious things she's doing to keep the false reality of the Hex going, she loves Vision too much to take away his agency or free will.
  • Despite not quite being Wanda's Pietro, this one accepts being a Cool Uncle for Billy and Tommy by using his Super-Speed to pull off plenty of pranks. He's also thrilled that one of his nephews has the same powers as he does.
  • Darcy warns Monica that crossing the barrier is changing her on a molecular level and that doing so again may cause further damage. Monica doesn't care and insists on going back in because she wants to help Wanda, specifically saying she knows what Wanda’s going through because of the loss of her mom.
    • Darcy and Jimmy also don't hesitate to stay and help Monica and Wanda. For all their statuses as Plucky Comic Relief, they've got enough heart to qualify as honorary Avengers.
  • Even as he's starting to break down outside of the Hex barrier, Vision fights through the pain and begs Darcy and the S.W.O.R.D. agents to help the people inside Westview. He might not know what an Avenger is, but this shows he’ll always have the heart of one.
    • Darcy herself begs the S.W.O.R.D. agents to help Vision, blowing her cover in order to do so.
    • Vision is one of three Avengers able to wield Mjolnir. It is no surprise that he tries to get help for Westview even as he is being torn apart leaving it.
  • When Billy stops Tommy mid-run, Tommy yells "Whoa, Billy!!" and is clearly happy that his brother has also developed powers. This is especially poignant since he was previously teasing Billy for not being as cool as him earlier in the episode.
    • Tommy doesn't know that the main reason Billy is concentrating so hard is because he's trying to see if their father is in trouble. Concerned, Tommy reaches out to him and asks him if he's alright.
  • Seeing Vision in his Avengers outfit, which is the first time it's appeared in the series. He even has the cape, despite not remembering Thor, who inspired it.
  • Wanda silencing Pietro after he makes an insensitive crack about Vision and expanding the town in an effort to save her husband shows how much she loves him. Even when they're arguing and he goes against her wishes, she'd still do anything to protect him.

Episode 7: Breaking the Fourth Wall
  • Despite their mother becoming a depressive mess this episode, the twins are genuinely concerned about her and clearly love Wanda. When Agatha offers to take them to her place for a while Billy objects and says someone needs to be around to look after their mom.
  • Monica tries to goad Wanda into killing her to prove that she is still a good person and an Avenger. She is right and Wanda cannot go through with it. She even bonds with Wanda over losing someone important to her and despite the pain it brought her, Monica urges Wanda to do the same as her and face reality. If Agnes hadn't intervened, there was a very high chance that Wanda could have been talked into ending the Hex right then and there.
  • The very first thing Vision asks Darcy once he breaks her out of her mind control (other than her name) is if the twins are in danger.
    Vision: Are my children safe?
  • Monica, Jimmy, and Darcy link up with the people who will help Monica get back into the Hex, and we see another S.W.O.R.D. camp, manned by personnel owing personal loyalty to the late Maria Rambeau, and it's very strongly implied, to Monica by extension.
  • After the shielded vehicle that was supposed to get Monica safely back into the Hex fails, she barely hesitates before going in on foot. We see the Hex trying to overwrite her a second time, but her memories of her mother, Captain Marvel, and Nick Fury help her retain her sense of self. In fact, it is Honorary Aunt Carol's words that she is "the toughest kid" that clinch her unlocking her new powers.
    • The entire time Monica is struggling to get out of the vehicle, Jimmy is audibly very concerned for her safety and even orders for a physician to check on her as soon as she rolls out.
  • As Darcy finally tells Vision about what happened to him, he begins to have a bit of an identity crisis, since he doesn't have any memories of the Vision who died, not even of his own conception or life with Wanda. Darcy reassures him in her own Darcy kind of way.
Darcy Lewis: What I do know is I've been watching WandaVision for the past week, and the love you two have is real. You belong together.
    • Also sweet is Vision's perspective on his past with Wanda. Instead of thinking something like "Wanda lied to me and went against my last wishes", he instead thinks, "I had no idea Wanda was struggling with so much grief". That is selfless love right there, and backs up Darcy's own take on their relationship.
  • While Vision is justifiably annoyed with Wanda and the obstacles she's (apparently) putting in his way, and freaked out about the situation he finds himself in, once he learns about the Trauma Conga Line his wife has gone through before creating the Hex he realizes he needs to stop playing along with the The Office routine and just go to her.
Vision: What am I doing here? I need to get to my wife.

    Episode 8: Previously On
  • While the flashback of Wanda during her time with HYDRA is mostly dark and depressing, the vision the Mind Stone gives her when amplifying her powers has her see a version of herself, in her full superhero getup, floating around surrounded by light is undoubtedly this. The implication that, despite all she's been through and what she still has yet to go through, that she'll recover from the trauma she's dealing with and become something greater in the future is absolutely inspiring. Bonus points for the Leitmotif of Wanda's Theme playing during the vision, flipping the dark tone of the theme into a borderline Triumphant Reprise as her true level of power is first manifested.
  • While Vision and Wanda sit together in her room on the Avengers compound not long after Pietro's death, they discuss Wanda's grief over losing her brother, with Vision comforting her the best way he can. The two then start watching Malcolm in the Middle, with the two of them awkwardly, but very obviously noticing that their feelings for each other are getting closer.
Vision: Wanda, I don't presume to know what you're feeling. But I would like to know, should you wish to tell me, should that be of some comfort to you?
Wanda Maximoff: What makes you think that talking about it would bring me comfort?
Vision: Oh, see, I read that...
Wanda Maximoff: The only thing that would bring me comfort is seeing him again.
    [beat]
Wanda Maximoff: [softly] I'm sorry. I'm so tired. [Wanda wipes tears from her eyes] It's... it's just like this wave washing over me, again and again. It knocks me down, and when I try to stand up, it just comes for me again. And I ... It's just gonna drown me.
    Vision: No. No, it won't.
Wanda Maximoff: How do you know?
Vision: Well, because it can't all be sorrow, can it? I've always been alone, so I don't feel the lack. It's all I've ever known. I've never experienced loss because I have never had a loved one to lose. But what is grief, if not love persevering?
    • Vision also doesn't demand Wanda talk to him, just lets her know he's there if she wants him and asks if he can be of any comfort.
    • Notably, when talking about the Avengers Compound, Wanda calls it "the first home" she and Vision ever shared. Even though she only lived there for a year, a year and a half at most, it's clear that Wanda actually liked being an Avenger and considered her teammates to be family.
  • Vision included Wanda in his will as his next of kin, and implicitly entrusted the disposal of his remains to her.
  • Seeing Wanda watch sitcoms such as The Dick Van Dyke Show with her family, The Brady Bunch in the HYDRA base, and Malcolm in the Middle with Vision. The comfort and happiness that they bring her is obvious, even though the first one is Mood Whiplash as it ends with her home being bombed and her parents dying.
  • While it might double as a Tear Jerker, this episode reveals that Wanda didn't steal Vision's body. She respected his wishes to be buried after death and would have put the process in motion, if Hayward hadn't refused to hand Vision's corpse over to her.
  • Getting a glimpse of the real Westview on Wanda's drive into town shows how she really did try to make everyone's lives better in the Hex. For example, "Dennis" goes from a dour pizza delivery guy to a happy mailman, Sharon Davis gets back together with her husband (who has either divorced her or died prior to the start of the series), and the bald John Collins gets a headful of hair.
  • Vision apparently bought a piece of land in Westview for him and Wanda to build a house to live in, giving her the nice, normal life she craved. It's just too bad he didn't live to experience it with her.
  • It's messed up, as she's now grey and a sitcom wife, but Wanda smiles with genuine happiness for the first time since her date in Scotland when her version of Vision sees her and says, "Welcome home". You understand why all this was so enticing and comforting to her.

    Episode 9: The Series Finale
  • Vision coming to Wanda's rescue, punting White Vision away from her and immediately asking about Billy and Tommy afterwards. Even after all that's happened and with all he's come to know about Wanda, he still loves and considers her and the twins his family.
  • Monica throwing herself in front of the Maximoff twins to protect them from Hayward. She is a S.W.O.R.D. agent but she is also technically their mom's mid-wife, making this doubly sweet.
    Monica Rambeau: Nice tricks.
Billy Maximoff: I liked yours, too!
  • Wanda and Vision's Rousing Speech to Billy and Tommy before they go to confront the S.W.O.R.D. agents and Hayward.
Vision: Listen, boys. Your mother and I never really prepared you for this.
Wanda Maximoff: But you were born for it.
  • Despite all the damage S.W.O.R.D. has committed under Hayward's leadership, Wanda goes out of her way to save them when Agatha attacks them, and this proves that she is still a hero and an Avenger.
  • As Wanda battles Agatha above them, Vision holds his sons close to either keep them safe or so they don't have to possibly watch their mother get hurt.
  • We get a nice scene of Vision and Wanda tucking the twins in and telling them how proud they are of them.
Vision: Your mother and I… are very proud of you both.
Wanda Maximoff: Very proud. You know… a family is forever. We could never truly leave each other, even if we tried. You know that, right?
    • Just as Wanda exits the room, she turns one last time and thanks the twins for letting her be their mother. It's an odd choice of words, but this feels like a subtle acknowledgement of their mystical nature on her part. Whatever primordial sentience resulted in her children was very real for her, and the fact that they always stood by her and returned her affections through it all was not lost on her.
    • After Wanda turns off the lights, presumably so she can be alone to grieve when it's over, Vision turns them on again. Saying he read somewhere that it's "bad luck to say goodbye in the dark", Wanda says he's lying and Vision admits she's right; he just wanted to see her.
      Wanda Maximoff: And?
      Vision: And there you are.
    • Even though he holds it together well, Vision is obviously frightened as he watches the Hex closing in on them. Wanda notices this and goes to hold his hand.
  • As heartbreaking as Westview!Vision's final death is, at least he and Wanda get to say goodbye to each other properly this time. Vision even hopes that they might see each other again and Wanda, with a tearful smile, agrees.
Vision: We have said goodbye before. So it stands to reason...
Wanda Maximoff: [softly cradling his face] We'll say hello again.
  • Monica and Wanda having one last heart-to-heart. Monica assures Wanda that, no matter what the people think, she will always be viewed as a hero and an ally to her, and she understands what Wanda had to sacrifice to make things right. Knowing that there's some people out there who know what she's going through, like her old Avenger friends and Monica, is clearly good enough for Wanda. Wanda then apologizes for all of the pain she put Monica and everyone else through. Once the authorities arrive, the two bid each other farewell – this time on good terms – and Monica wishes Wanda luck on finding her purpose.
    • Monica also takes the time to reassure Wanda that, if she had her powers, she would have done the same thing to bring her mother back. Even Wanda has to smile at that. Although it's a small gesture compared to the massive amount of therapy Wanda truly needs, it clearly made her feel so much better that at least one person sees the Hex for what it was intended to be: an act of true love.
    • Also, as she and Vision take their sons home, Wanda is seen grinning at Monica in a friendly way. She's clearly grateful that Monica – literally – took a few bullets to protect her children.
  • The sweet family portrait on the lampstand is a perfect symbol of Wanda's goal with the Hex: a husband, two kids, and a peaceful life.
  • Although ambiguous, Wanda suddenly hears the cries of her two sons, who were supposed to be inexistent. She believes (and even hopes) that her children are still alive, but are trapped somewhere. Wanda immediately springs into action to find her lost and endangered sons.
