Thors giving up his life to make sure Thorfinn survived Askeladd's suprise attack.
Chapter 19: While duelling Thorfinn in England, Thorkell recognizes Thorfinn as the son of Thors, who Thorkell respected and reminds him that Thorfinn's mother is his niece, making Thorkell his great-uncle. It's actually quite nice to see that someone recognizes Thorfinn, despite the years, and actually say they're related to him.
Leif never stopped his search for Thorfinn after Thors died, trying relentlessly and pursuing any leads that came up for about fifteen years until he found him.
When Olmar states his intention to surrender to Canute, and spare their farm any more bloodshed, Snake states that he'll accompany him to meet Canute. And that after everything he's been through, he won't mock or belittle Olmar.
Gudrid confessing she likes Thorfinn in front of Thorkell in an attempt to prevent the two from fighting. Thorkell's reaction is to squeal like a schoolgirl and comment that Thorfinn is a lucky guy and to marry her as soon as he can...while Thorfinn simply stares uncomprehendingly.
Even before her confession, Thorkell deduces she likes him. After Gudrid confirms, she attempts to fight Thorkell in Thorfinn's place. A touched Thorkell is convinced to postpone their duel and walks away happily.
Sigurd overhears that Gudrid likes Thorfinn, and he actually becomes annoyed that she plans to leave with him (having made an arrangement to prior) without even staying to confirm if Thorfinn feels the same way. Gudrid denies anything, but Sigurd says she's clearly too much of a coward to see it anyways, resulting in Gudrid storming back to defy him. In the end, Sigurd realizes that Gudrid deserves Thorfinn, and leaves on his ship before Gudrid can come back even though he promised not to return to Iceland without his bride. Sigurd's hubris has been broken and acknowledges that Gudrid deserves someone who's better than he is is quite nice.
Shortly before leaving for Vinland, Thorfinn has a heart-to-heart with Leif where Leif comments on his old age and wishes Thorfinn well. It is then that Leif refers to Thorfinn as his son, and Thorfinn realizes that he had three father figures growing up: Thors, Askeladd, and Leif. He even sees a vision of all of them.
Gudrid announcing she's pregnant, and Thorfinn's reaction when he and his wife are going to have the first baby born in Vinland.
Hild finally forgiving Thorfinn after realizing that her anger and grudges accomplish nothing, and seeing how the Thorfinn who killed her father simply isn't the same person he was back then, and genuinely trying to do better. In a moment of vulnerability, Hild removes her headband to let her hair down, and says she has verified his atonement before placing her hand on his shoulder and wishes to call him a friend from now on. Thorfinn is speechless and begins to break down in tears, collapsing to his knees...followed shortly by Einar and Gudrid, while Karli simply says he's glad they're friends now.
