Heartwarming / The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson

Go To

  • The episode from 1987 with four-year-old spelling bee star Rohan Varavadekar. The interview is both hilarious and makes you go "Awwww". Especially the moment when Rohan invites Johnny to his fifth birthday party.
  • A minor one, but on a 1986 episode, Buddy Hackett was the third guest and was in the middle of telling a story but they had to cut to commercial. When they came back, rather than continue with the story, he decided to cede his time to allow the fourth guest Ally Sheedy to come out and not get bumped. Johnny was actually set to let Buddy continue but he politely declined:
Buddy: Okay, I really can't tell you any more stories, because there's a beautiful girl waiting to come out, and I don't wanna, no, it's not fair. She's young, she has her whole establishment to make, and it's her time, and it's my time to move over and come back and tell you the story next time.
Johnny: (over audience applause) Isn't that sweet. That's very sweet.
  • From Johnny Carson's run; the night before his final show, Bette Midler serenades him with a performance of "One More For the Road."
  • Johnny's final show itself - "I bid you a very heartfelt goodnight."
