- Mathayus proves early on that he's not just a merciless mercenary on a mission of revenge, when he spots the boy who played guide for him caught by Memnon's men. He then saves the kid from getting his hand chopped off for thievery (a crime of which he was innocent by the way).
- Notice the very conflicted look on Mathayus face as he struggles with his decision. He knows the boy is an innocent, but the man who murdered his brother sitting right out in the open. Ultimately, Mathayus decides the boy is more important than his revenge.
- The Sorceress, Cassandra risking her life to save Mathayus from Thorak's poisoned arrow. Despite the fact that he'd just kidnapped her, and she'd already tried to escape him.
- The moment when Mathayus suddenly starts threating anyone who tries to lay a hand on the Sorceress, Cassandra.
- Mathayus's camel helping Cassandra when she asks him for his aid.Cassandra: (humbly) I need your help. (camel instantly sits down, allowing her to mount it)
- Mathayus jumps through flames to rescue Cassandra from Memnon, unarmed. Balthazar (who's never called Mathayus anything but "Akkadian" until then), yells his name and throws him his sword. The two warriors exchange a nod of respect, before Mathayus charges out of the room.
