  • A rather surprising one occurs toward the end of Chapter 13 of the 3rd book, where Ridcully and Ponder Stibbons are discussing Darwin's theories and instead of going off on another tangent about how things like the evolution of the eye don't seem to make sense like Stibbons expects it to, Ridcully engages in a heart-to-heart chat with the younger wizard about why people want to believe in a higher power and struggle to find meaning in an uncaring universe. Of course, Ridcully being Ridcully, it's not long before he goes and ruins it by bringing up the hideous reproductive mechanisms of tarantula hawks and Ponder has to make up an excuse to extricate himself.
