Heartwarming / The Lorax (2012)

You done good, beanpole. You done good.

• Doubling as a Tear Jerker, the Lorax and the forest animals setting a circle of stones around a chopped tree. Something we wouldn't have though twice about otherwise was made raw and emotional through how it was handled. The Lorax couldn't have looked more sad had that tree been a dead forest animal.
  • Somewhat reversed in the end, with the people of Thneedville putting a similar ring of stones around the sprouting seed.
• The final musical number, "Let it Grow" as a whole is this (as well as a happy Tear Jerker^note and a giant meme).
• For Ted's third visit, he brings the Once-ler a bag of marshmallows after hearing of his taste for them. That small gesture indicates Ted's concern for the Once-ler and shows he cares about him, which means a lot to a lonely hermit like Once-ler.
  • Don't forget the cute little happy noise the Once-ler makes when he sees the bag of marshmallows.
• Seeing the art style transform into Dr. Seuss's during the end credits.
• During the waterfall scene, after the Lorax saves Pipsqueak and young!Once-ler by rolling a boulder onto the bed, they're both launched off and, as they go flying through the air, Once-ler catches Pipsqueak, pulling him to his chest to break his fall.
• The end, when the Once-ler goes outside his house, where he has been for many years, to see that grass and trees are returning. He proceeds to water a truffula tree and the animals start to return. Then finally, the Lorax un-lifts himself. Upon seeing the symbol of what he destroyed return, Once-ler laughs in relieved elation - the first happiness he's seen as an old man at all - looks like he's about to tear up and gives Lorax an enormous hug. Then, the two share niceties.
  • "Nice mustache".
  • During the last music number 'Let It Grow', the Once-ler chops down the wooden planks shutting his window closed, and hears the town of Thneedville on the horizon, finally agreeing to plant trees. Cut to the first time the audience sees the Old Man Once-ler's face, and he is tearing up and smiling! "Thank you, Ted."
  • Also, when the Lorax's final line to the Once-ler, which is all the more heartwarming considering his "Well Done, Son" Guy issues.
    Lorax: Ya done good, Beanpole, ya done good.
  • The Swomee Swan flying over, revealing that the exiled animals did find a place where they could survive.
• From the movie:
  • "Let It Grow" the finale, especially when Ted gets his kiss from Audrey.
  • In the end, Old Once-Ler's reunion with the Lorax after truffula saplings begin to grow back, complete with a hug between old friends.
• From the movie: Grammy saying "I remember you..." as she holds the truffula seed like it's the most precious thing ever.
• From the movie: after the Once-ler gives him the last Truffula seed, Ted wonders what he's supposed to do with it if no one cares.
  Once-ler: I know it may seem small and insignificant, but it's not about what it is, it's about what it can become. That's not just a seed, anymore than you're just a boy.
• The fact Ted was named after the man who first gave us this story and so many others, and Audrey for his wife.
  “Thank you, Ted.”
