Heartwarming / The Last Ship

S01 E09 Trials

  • Chief Engineer Garnett singing to Kara Foster, doubles as a tearjerker as Garnett is delirious and is imagining Kara as her own daughter, who may or may not be alive, as a baby.
    • This becomes Harsher in Hindsight in season 2, when Garnett learns that her family perished while she was at sea.
  • Doubles as a tear jerker, but the crewmembers visiting the six human volunteers for the vaccine really do want to keep their spirits up, with a pun in some cases:
Chung: You gotta stick around, ma'am. You know I can't be chief engineer. ChEng Chung? Come on. (sad chuckle)
  • Danny finds out that Kara is pregnant and that the success of the vaccine means that their child will be born naturally immune. Not only that, Chandler also implicitly allowed them to openly acknowledge their feelings for one another, although whether or not they can pursue the romance aboard ship is another matter.

S02 E02 Fight the Ship

  • Danny sits with Alisha to try and show that the sins of her mother don't reflect badly on her.

S02 E03 It's Not a Rumor

  • Kara finds her mom alive and well - and sober, to boot.
    • Plus, her mother intuitively knows that she and Danny are in a relationship and expecting a baby.
  • After LTJG Granderson has been spending the episode being unable to face Chandler or Kara because of her mother's actions, they show up to break her out of her Heroic BSoD - Chandler gives her a promotion for her loyalty, and Kara does the honors of swearing her in.

S02 E08 Safe Zone

  • Chandler managing to make a connection with the President and turn him away from his Death Seeker tendencies.
  • At the end of the episode, Chandler assures the President that everything they talked about - the President's suicide attempt, his Mercy Kill of his daughters, accidentally infecting the safe zone - stays between them, and then shows him to his new quarters: the junior officers' wardroom, now converted as a stateroom, with the Presidential Seal on the door and wall.

S02 E13 A More Perfect Union

  • After a season of getting kicked around by the Chosen and the Immunes, the crew of the Nathan James arrive in St. Louis, where they get a hero's welcome. It's a nice change of pace.
    • Tex is reunited with his daughter.
    • Jeter gets reunited with his in-laws.
    • Michener is officially sworn in as the President of the United States.
    • Chandler is promoted to Chief of Naval Operations.
    • Green finally proposes to Foster.
    • The crew raises a toast to all of the named crewmen who've died over the past two seasons.
    • Chandler and Rachel make amends. In fact, Chandler admits that, while he would have indeed followed through in turning Rachel over to the proper authorities for killing Niels, he (and the rest of the crew behind him) would have given positive character references on her behalf.

S03 E12 Resistance

  • The reunion between Kara, Tex, and the crew of the Nathan James. Special mention goes towards Kara and Danny's Big Damn Kiss after months apart (and after Kara had feared Danny was dead) and the big dopey relieved grin that spreads across Chandler's face when he realizes that Tex is back with them. Also, later, when everyone's back aboard the ship, Kara gives a warm hug to Granderson, her old roommate.

S03 E13 Don't Look Back

  • Danny finally getting to meet his son.

S05 E04 Warriors

  • Master Chief Jeter, Miller, and both Burk brothers attend a war bond fundraiser at an elegant mansion in Georgia as guests of honor. Miller meets the owner’s daughter and romance sparks. Carlton Burk, uncomfortable with the attention and dealing with his own issues, connects with two retired veterans, a Marine officer and Navy chaplain who saved each other's lives in Vietnam. Meanwhile Cameron Burk, whose scars have netted him quite a bit of female attention, encounters a little boy who is afraid to ask him about his prosthetic leg. After letting the boy touch his prosthetic, Cameron asks if he wants to know a secret: "I’m a superhero!"

S05 E09 Courage

  • The episode opens with Miller stuck back at base, and despite everything that's happened to him this season, he's in good spirits. He's not even bothered by the fact that the Nathan James left without him, he's just glad that they're finally heading out to finish the war with Gran Colombia.
  • Burk sends a video message to Miller encouraging him to keep exercising, vowing to come back and kick his ass if he goes soft.
  • As Danny and Kara prepare to be separated yet again so that Danny can go on yet another dangerous mission, Danny solemnly promises Kara that this will be the last one, and that once it's over, he intends to stay stateside with her and Frankie.

S05 E10 Commitment

  • Danny's helmet now has the name "Burk" scrawled on it, as a tribute to his friend.
  • Chandler's Imagine Spot sees him being reunited with Tex, and then getting decommissioned by Michener and saluted by all of the various named seamen who have died over the course of the series.
